[OSL | CCIE_Voice] CCIE Collaboration Written -- Single or double CCIE

2013-06-08 Thread Mohamed Gazzaz
Hi,

Let's say you are a CCIE voice and you passed the CCIE collaboration exam next
year, what will happen?

- You will become a dual/double CCIE
- You will still be a single CCIE but Cisco will rename your CCIE from Voice to
Collaboration

Are there any official words form Cisco about this? What do you think?

Mohamed Gazzaz

Re: [OSL | CCIE_Voice] Unity Connection Restriction Tables setting for External Transfer

2013-05-22 Thread Mohamed Gazzaz
Hi Ramcharan,

If this pattern is blocked in Unity, then you have to unblock it (from the
restriction table). Usually what I do is i always put 9 before the Pstn number
and it becomes like this 93942123. This pattern usually is not blocked in unity
and by putting 9, it will hit the already configured route pattern in CUCM.
Don't forget to assign the correct CSS to the unity ports and configure an
external mask for the ports. We need to adhere to the PSTN requirements.

Mohamed Gazzaz

Hello,
I need clarification regarding when call goes into HQ Phone and press key 1 to
transfer call to PSTN Line 1.

Since this is external number 2123942123. Since this is external call and Unity
connection is using Default system transfer.

Do I need to remove block pattern from restriction table.

Please let me know your feedback/suggestions.

Thanks Regards,

Re: [OSL | CCIE_Voice] How to configure ringlist for a specific phone in CUCM?

2013-05-12 Thread Mohamed Gazzaz
Hi Hesham,

1- Configure the subscriber as the first TFTP server in the DHCP pool and then
the publisher
Configure DHCP option 150 10.10.210.11 10.10.210.10

2- Once the phones obtain the IP addresses and register to the subscriber, go
to the specific phone (Let's say phone 1) and click on settings

3- Go to network configuration, and select IPv4

4- Unlock the security, and go to the option 16 Alternate TFTP and change it
to YES

5- Go to options 17 and 18 TFTP server 1 and TFTP server 2 and make the
publisher TFTP 1 and the sub TFTP 2

Before doing this, you have to upload the modified ringlist.xml to the
publisher.

Both phones will still register to the subscriber but phone 1 will get the
customized ringlist while phone will get the default one.

Hi William,

Thanks a lot for your great input.
Yes I am aware of the universal ringlist.xml which is located at
http://cucmip:6970/ringlist.xml.
I know how to change and edit that very well for all the phones.
Ok , now for that thing you mentioned below to point to a different TFTP server
and then have a different Ringlist.xml
do you mean by that for example I make the universal on Publisher and let all
phones register to Publisher?
and make the other ringlist on the subscriber and let that specific phone
register with the subscriber likewise I should configure the first option 150
ip for the phone to subscriber and publisher is the second.

I think I can let the UCCX publish the ringlist.xml as it has an IIS as
webserver but I don't know how to apply this file on that specific phone on
which tab or parameter I am able to do that.
In Directories menu , I can create a custom Directories.xml and publish it via
UCCX server then I apply the link on the service provisioning enterprise
parameters. Then I make service provisioning both inernal and external.

Now , the question where is the parameter where can I apply an external link
for the ringlist.xml?
I am sure that it has something to do with the original phone file
configuration which can be tweaked for that.

Thanks,
Hesham

There is a specific config file for each phone, this is true. However, that

I am sure you are aware. As far as I know the ringlist file is universal. The
only way you could specify a custom ringlist for one phone would be to point
that phone to a different TFTP server and then have a different Ringlist.xml on
that TFTP server (along with all of the other files you would need).

Re: [OSL | CCIE_Voice] 5-Lab Challenge, Lab 1 PSTN Router Question

2013-04-15 Thread Mohamed Gazzaz
Hi Todd,

In the lab, we don't have access to the PSTN router so we are not supposed to
do anything on the PSTN router (even though we have access on proctorlabs). I
faced this issue and I think it is a configuration mismatch between the PSTN
router and the DSG. I usually change my configuration on CUCM or the H323
gateway to match what is configured on the PSTN router.

Subject: [OSL | CCIE_Voice] 5-Lab Challenge, Lab 1 PSTN Router Question

I'm working on Lab 1 of the 5-lab Self Study Challenge. In Section 4.1, the
lab says to use 7-digit DNIS and 10-digit ANI for calls from Site A Site B
to the PSTN phone. My lab is configured exactly like the DSG, yet calls are
failing from both site A B. I logged onto the PSTN router and I see that
calls are successfully reaching the core. That lets me know that CUCM and
the Site A B gateways are sending calls properly. Looking at the PSTN
router, I see that there are translation-rules that are actually preventing
inbound calls from reaching my PSTN phone.

Question for the Group: Is it permissible to change the voice
translation-rules on the PSTN gateway to solve this problem or is there
another solution I should be using? The DSG doesn't say one way or the other.

 Thanks in advance!

Re: [OSL | CCIE_Voice] MGCP IOS vs GUI settings

2013-04-09 Thread Mohamed Gazzaz

Vik told us this in the troubleshooting class. If you are using CCM-manager
config, then it won't configure the following

- network clock participate and network clock select
- no switchback and no dtmf
- no bind control and no bind media

You have to enter them manually after the MGCP configuration are pushed from
CUCM to the gateway and you enter no ccm-manager config

Network-clock (participate and select)
ccm switchback immediate
mgcp dtmf-relay voip codec all mode out
mgcp bind control source-interface loop0
mgcp bind media source-interface lopp0

There are other commands like the pri-group timeslot and the backhaul link to
CUCM under the signaling interface - if partial pri is required.

Well,

I don't use/haven't used ccm-manager config. I rather configure it manually.

So, from this, at least what I will follow is to configure it manually in IOS,
and then change them in GUI appropriately to match configured values.

Thanks for the views, and other views are most welcome.

It would be interesting to here what others do for the ISDN switchtype. I do

We have 100 pps and the voice payload size is 10bytes

46400 * 4 calls = 185,600 -- 186 kbps

Re: [OSL | CCIE_Voice] RSVP MTP Codec passthru

2013-02-24 Thread Mohamed Gazzaz

Passthru is not needed but it will override whatever codec configured in the
MTP profile. Let's say for example, you have 2 regions for branch1 and HQ and
g729 is used between the 2 regions. If you type codec g711ulaw and codec
passthru in the MTP profile, then g711 will not be used.

Here are some test results

(codec configured between 2 regions + codec passthru in the mtp profile +
manual codec configured in the mtp profile)

Region g729 + passthru + codec g711 = worked (signaling 40K , actual
connection 24K)
Region g729 + codec g711 = failed (not enough bandwidth)
Region g729 + codec g729 = worked (signaling 40K actual connection 24K)
Region g729 + passthru = worked (signaling 40K actual connection 24K)

Region g711 + codec g729 = worked (signaling 96K actual connection 24K)
Region g711 + passthru + codec g729 = worked (signaling 96K actual connection

Region g711 + codec g711 = worked (signaling 96K actual connection 80K)

Re: [OSL | CCIE_Voice] Two Important Questions

2012-12-31 Thread Mohamed Gazzaz

Hi Hugo,

1- They are many similarities between them but I believe lab 4 of the OWLE
equals the real lab in terms of length. I didn't pass my first attempt 3 weeks
ago because I didn't have enough time to finish the lab. During my studies, I
was able to finish most of the IPexpert labs from both workbooks in less than 8
hours but I never manged to finish lab 4 of the OWLE workbook in 8 hours.

2- If you skip Qos, I believe you will still pass. Let say you got 2 Qos
questions and they worth 8 points, then you will have 92 points left and you
only need 80 points to pass the exam.

Hi,

Two questions:

1.
Is there a difference between the OWL Labs and the 5-lab Workbook?

2.
If a candidate during the exam doesn’t go for the QoS section do you think
he/she will still pass? Or is Cisco specifically looking for certain sections
of the test to be executed?

Your thoughts would be appreciated.

Q. Do all the PL voice racks actually have 7962 phones connected to the sw
ports ?.

I have been using the racks for some and know about the various 'mis-configs'
inserted for troubleshooting - but when you apply the same phone config for
7960 phones ports and these phones appear in sh cdp and the 7962 don't - it
makes you wonder if the 7962 phone is actually connected.

Normally I have my hardware phones on via a remote vpn link , but on this
session i don't and and trying to use pview. How do you do the OWLE Labs using
+ dialling when you only see 7960 phones on the PL racks ? Unfortunately this
is not the first time I have come across missing 7962 and have also heard this
mentioned by some attendees on a recent IP expert bootcamp.

So what do you do to verify whether the rack has 7962's ?

I guess IPEx/PL don't guarentee every rack has 7962 phones as when on a
bootcamp they had to tweak the configs [using ILMED ?] to ensure the the
candidates actually had the 7962 phones on their PODS they could do the labs.

I have emailed the support team to verify but they have not/do not reply. Seems
i'm screwed on this session.

Any opinions ?

you will not feel that delay.

Subject: [OSL | CCIE_Voice] Lab in Dubai. Response time and slowness?

Hello,

I am going to Dubai for my first attempt soon but since Dubai is connected to
Belgium (We don't have the actual hardware in Dubai), Some people are
complaining about slowness and response time. For example, it will take a long
time to open a new page or refresh
the current one. I have been using proctorlabs and the speed is fast and the
response time is good.

I am afraid that slowness might affect my time and strategy. Has anyone tried
the lab in Dubai?

What about the other remote locations?

My tips so far to counter this issue:

- Use command line as much as you can when configuring CUE

- Open multiple tabs in IE (Are they still using the non-tabbed version of IE?
what about SecureCRT)

Thanks you.

[OSL | CCIE_Voice] Lab in Dubai. Response time and slowness?

2012-11-26 Thread Mohamed Gazzaz

Hello,

I am going to Dubai for my first attempt soon but since Dubai is connected to
Belgium (We don't have the actual hardware in Dubai), Some people are
complaining about slowness and response time. For example, it will take a long
time to open a new page or refresh the current one. I have been using
proctorlabs and the speed is fast and the response time is good.

Thanks you.

Regards,
Mohamed Gazzaz

The enterprise url parameters apply only to phones using external provisioning.
So the IP expert solution is fine.

Be aware that some older phone models (e.g.7960) only support external
provisioning so you might see different results depending on what hardware you
have - but the Cisco lab itself is 7965 phones (this is public published info)

Thanks for the clarification. Can't we achieve the same result by using these
steps

- Delete the Missed, Placed, Corporate, Placed and Received from the Phones
IP Phone Services page
- From the below link, restore the 5 services with enterprise subscription

I tried this and it worked for me.

The last time I tried this, it didn't put them in the correct order but I know
how to fix it

Right now, I don't remember the correct order of the services but let's assume
the correct order is

1- received
2- missed
3- placed
4- Personal
5- Corporate

When you create the phone template and use bat to subscribe the services, start
from the bottom to the top (from 5 to 1)

The lat time I tried this, I started from 1 to 5 and when I presses the
services button, they appeared in the reverse order. I need to try that again
to confirm.

Subject: [OSL | CCIE_Voice] passed CCIE 29606

hello guys,

My 2 year journey just came to an end. I took my 3rd attempt yesterday in San
Jose and i just got my score 5 mins ago with good news
I'm CCIE # 29606
It was long hours of study time and lab time

I couldn't afford a home lab so all i did is rent equipment from Proctorlabs i
was able to get physical phones to test. which was pretty good

my strategy was a bit different from what people usually recommend

I started with Infrastructure of course
switch config all that needed to be done in the switch including QoS, so i
could forget about that device
then i moved to HQ, SiteB and SiteC NTP, vlans, and then QoS right away after
that i started working on CUE (because i know it takes long time)

then i moved to PRI configs
then i started working on configuring my phones, basic config
then i moved over to VM, then UCCX, then all the features requested
and at the end i did call routing

something that actually helped me out a lot to improve my speed was

i created my configs in notepad and i called those my templates, so during the
week i didn't have access to any rack rental sessions so i was practicing in
notepad

i did the workbooks 1 and 2 only once then i was using the rack rental sessions
to practice pretty heavily on a tech basis everthing from inside out and every
once in a while start adding more technologies

that was my experience i didn't know how to approach this beast at the
beginning I was reading all the documentation all the pdf's and books and i was
getting bored
so i dediced to read all the documentation, pdf's and books on a technology
basis i printed a calendar and with the blue print on the other hand i marked
which days i was going to spend studying X item on the blue print so by the
time it was the weekend i could practice that in my lab sessions during the
weekend and get as much as i could from the rack rental sessions

thank you very much for all your support and also for my study partners from
all over the world
I'll try to help you to get your number as well, you guys helped me, i'm going
to try to do the same

have a great day !

Hi all,

As the subject suggests, it's official, I'm dual CCIE #19926 RS and Voice
starting yesterday.

Finally, it's a relief, no more studying late, spending weekends on a computer,
making calls, my neighbours think I escaped a psychiatric, after hearing voices
at night TEST VOICEMAIL FOR HQ PHONE 1 and my personal favourite YOUR
POSITION IN QUEUE IS :)

I would like to transmit a very special thank you to IPExpert, and especially
Vik Malhi. He's definitely made difference for me as a trainer. Just when you
think you know it all about something, he would come up with something to prove
me wrong, to show me the gaps in my knowledge I didn't know existed.

Thank you Vik!

Thanks to everyone on this forum too, there are many good people on the forum,
with big knowledge, and more importantly willing to share it. It was big fun, I
enjoyed the process a lot.

By the way, I made it technically on my first attempt. Well, I payed once only,
although I went to exam 3 times.
1st time, technical problems, Cisco gave me free retake voucher, 2nd time,
again technical problems, again free voucher.

To be honest after so many free retakes, I'm not even sure if I really passed,
or I was costing them too much so they decided to give it to me :-), good
samaritans these cisco guys.

Wish you all good luck, and don't get frustrated, and most importantly have
fun.

Re: [OSL | CCIE_Voice] Challenges with Hardware VPN

2011-06-27 Thread Mohamed Gazzaz

Hi pithog,

I faced the same problems in my first session and to overcome these problems, I
stopped using DHCP and configured the IP address, subnet Mask, Gateway, and
TFTP manually on all the IP phones. To stop the phones from changing their
firmware, go to CUCM Admin page, then select Device -- Phone -- select a
phone -- in the phone configuration page, type the firmware name in the Phone
Load Name field. For example, my phone uses this firmware SCCP70.9-1-1SR1S

In CME, Don't write the load command under telephony-service

Ap per Ipexpert's voice topology, I purchased 5 IP Phones which I use to

One last question, Can I skip Volume 1 5A labs and start with 5C labs? or do I
have to finish 5A before moving to 5C?

You can use the phones at proctorlabs at each site, you can have then use SCCP
and enable auto answer then use you local phones to do the SIP requirements. If
you can afford two more phones the better. When starting off i think doing each
volume 1 lab is essential as it builds on previous questions, you can
thereafter pick random sections to test and when comfortable move to volume
two. That's the approach i've taken.

What kind of phones do you guys/gals use to access the voice racks? and why
would you choose a soft phone over physical phone or vice versa?

Will I miss any benefits or features if I used soft phones?

Thanks.

Re: [OSL | CCIE_Voice] Options to access the voice racks

Thanks Rogers and Vik for your clarifications. Does each online rack has 7965
phones? and can I use Phone Remote to control the actual phone on the rack ?

More info on Phone Remote

The best option is to use 7965 phones since this is what is used in the lab.
This wlll require you to use a lower end cisco router for hw vpn and local
phones. If you can't afford 7965 phones then 7962 phones are your next best
thing. If you can't afford 7962 then use 7961 phones are ok although they do
not support iLBC.

If you want to use softphones then you can use ip blue and set the device type
to 7965/2 and obviously CUPC. The only limitation is checking the directory
when searching for a number in the missed/received calls directory. This is
easily overcome by looking at the CDR.

This is a great tool to control phones remotely for your UCM sites - however
you still need local phones (or IP Blue) for CME and SRST which constitute a
major part of the CCIE Voice lab . So this software (which also has a cost)
will not replace the need for local clients. Our philosophy is that if you are
investing in local clients (61/2/5) you don’t need the newer model phones back
in the rack of equipment and subsequently we have not invested in the 61/62/65
back in the rack (we use 7960 for Vlan/dhcp).

I personally use the IP Blue multi-lab tool that supports every major feature
required for you to help pass the CCIE Voice Lab. The only flaw is that it does
not show the globalized Calling number in the Missed / Received calls log. This
is very easily overcome by just checking the CDR using the CAR tool. See
example below:

I called my HQ Phone from the PSTN- the Calling number whilst the phone was
ringing shows 011442077354765. If I had a hardware 7961/62/65 phone I could
check the Missed / Received calls directory for the globalized #. In my case I
use IP Blue and have to check the CDR via the CAR tool (virtually no setup
time) to check for the globalized number.
