I recommend doing all digit manipulation at route list.  Then if you have a
question that specifies what the To display should show you do ALSO do
digit manipulation at the route pattern.  The rp applies to the phone and
rlist would be used for the gateway.

Also, if you change any of the default settings for the route list for called 
number, it will negate any route pattern settings from a call routing 
perspective. As Justin said though, the route pattern settings will still 
affect what is displayed on the phone.
