Postdoctoral position in DNA Damage Response Group at the Paterson Institute 
for Cancer Research, Manchester

The Paterson Institute is a leading cancer centre of excellence core-funded by 
Cancer Research UK and is an Institute of The University of Manchester.

A 3-years position with the possibility of extension is available in the DNA 
Damage Response group led by Dr Ivan Ahel to study structure and function of 
DNA repair enzymes:

•       Slade, D., Dunstan, M.S., Barkauskaite, E., Weston, R., Lafite, P., 
Dixon, N., Ahel, M., Leys, D., and Ahel, I. (2011). The structure and catalytic 
mechanism of a poly(ADP-ribose) glycohydrolase. Nature 477, 616–620.

•       Ahel, I., Ahel, D., Matsusaka, T., Clark, A.J., Pines, J., Boulton, 
S.J., and West, S.C. (2008). Poly(ADP-ribose)-binding zinc finger motifs in DNA 
repair/checkpoint proteins. Nature 451, 81–85.

The successful candidate will have a PhD in biochemistry or cell biology, and 
at least one peer-reviewed publication as a first author.
