Dear colleagues, thanks to all of you who replied to my post. Thanks specially to Peter, who was spot on with finding the cause of the problem - the missing version statement in libgfortran.so.3, and to Marcin, who posted the workaround (ln -s libgfortran.so.3.0.0 $CCP4/lib/libgfortran.so.3).
