[ccp4bb] Postdoctoral position - Structural Microbiology, Institut Pasteur
Dear all, a 2-year postdoctoral position funded by the ANR (the French National Agency for Research) is available at the Structural Microbiology Unit at the Institut Pasteur in Paris. Our team has been working on the regulation of central metabolism in Mycobacteria, with particular emphasis on the role of GarA, an FHA-domain protein that turned out to act as a regulator of a few central metabolic enzymes - a control level that seems to be unique to the Actinobacteria phylum. The project in which the postdoctoral fellow will be enrolled aims at isolating from the source organism (top-down approach) and/or reconstructing in vitro (bottom-up) a central metabolic 'supercomplex' from Corynebacterium glutamicum, and possibly the non-pathogenic Mycobacterium smegmatis, in order to characterize it by an integrated structural biology approach (X-ray crystallography, SAXS, cryo-EM). The lab is fully equipped for recombinant protein expression and purification and interacts closely with a number of facilities (e.g. crystallography, macromolecular biophysics, microscopy) providing access to state-of-the-art equipment and located a few steps within the institute campus. Regular access (on a monthly basis) is also available to MX and SAXS beamlines, both at the Soleil and ESRF synchrotrons. The ideal candidate is an enthusiastic and self-motivated PhD with a strong background in protein biochemistry, and experience in dealing with multi-subunit macromolecular complexes. Familiarity with SAXS and/or cryo-EM would be an asset. The position will be available from March 2014, although the starting date may be arranged. If interested, please send a CV with your publication list and detailed research experience (including contacts of a couple of referees) by *November 15* to marco.bellinzoni at pasteur.fr. [ccp4bb] Phaser gives error in 6.4.0 version
Dear All, Installed the CCP4 6.4.0 version recently on CentoS 5. When I try to run phaser I get the following error. Apparently I can reproduce the error for different reflection file. This happens after getting the rotation, translation and packing function. Any suggestions to this problem is highly appreciated. -- REFINEMENT -- Protocol cycle #1 of 1 Refinement protocol for this macrocycle: ROTATION : REFINE TRANSLATION : REFINE BFACTOR : REFINE MODEL VRMS : FIX MAP CELL SCALE: FIX LAST ONLY : FALSE There are 2 solutions to refine Spreading calculation onto 2 threads. [ccp4bb] Mr Ashley Bray
Dear CCP4 community, I am very stunned to hear about the death of Mr. Ashley Bray. He was a friend and colleague when I was in Dublin, where he was doing his PhD in membrane protein crystallography. He knew many techniques and was dedicated to his work, and to become a good scientist. Ashley finished his MSc last year at the University of Oxford with high scores. He lived mostly in the region between London and Southampton. He was a young guy in his early twenties. He was very polite, peaceful, and a human right activist. He was very skilled in playing piano. I still remember when I asked him why is he vegan, he then alerted me to the fact of how male animals are treated and killed since they are useless for the production of eggs and milk. To Ashley and his family, blessings during this time and always. toufic
