Re: [ccp4bb] wwpdb validation

2018-07-27 Thread Pavel Afonine
Phenix has its own way to do it which is "Comprehensive validation"
available from the GUI. This includes validation of model, data and
model-to-data fit. It is data-specific: there is one for crystallography
(X-ray or neutron) and one for Cryo-EM. For best results, you need the
latest version from nightly builds. Hope "wwpdb validation pipeline" is
something along the same lines, or close at least.
All the best,
Pavel

[ccp4bb] Postdoctoral position in Structural Microbiology (Montreal, Canada)

2018-07-27 Thread Calmettes, Charles
A postdoctoral position is open in my lab at the Institut Armand-Frappier in
Montreal. Please see details below for more Information:

Postdoctoral Fellowship in Structural Microbiology

Project description: A postdoctoral position is available in the research group
of Assistant Prof. Charles Calmettes at the Centre INRS-Institut Armand
Frappier in Laval (Greater Montreal, Canada) to work on a 5-years CIHR funded
project. For this position we are looking for a talented, highly skilled, and
motivated postdoc with a proven track record in the areas of structural biology
and protein biochemistry. The successful candidate is expected to dissect the
structure and function of bacterial proteins (membrane and soluble proteins)
identified as potential new drug targets, using a combination of X-ray
crystallography and biochemical techniques. The research project is a follow up
study from our article entitled “Global landscape of cell envelope protein
complexes in Escherichia
coli”, recently published in
Nature Biotechnology (2018).

The applicant must have a PhD in a relevant field, such as protein
biochemistry, biophysics, membrane protein, or structural biology. Preference
will be given to candidate with protein expression and purification skills, and
with a solid knowledge in protein characterization and biophysical methods.
Experience in X-ray crystallography is preferred but not mandatory. The
applicant will be an enthusiastic scientist who demonstrates excellence,
creativity, commitment to research, and effective communication skills. The
Centre INRS-Institut Armand Frappier offers a French/English bilingual
environment.

Salary range: To be eligible applicants must have completed their PhD degrees
within the last 3 years. The salary range for the position is $40,000 to
$50,000 per year.

Starting date: Review of applications begins immediately and will continue
until the position is filled. Send your CV and a cover letter in PDF to
charles.calmet...@iaf.inrs.ca. Successful
candidates will be notified for interviews. Anticipated starting date is
October 2018.

Institution: INRS–Institut Armand-Frappier Research
Center,
is a university dedicated to fundamental and applied research in the field of
infectious diseases, immunity, and pharmaco-chemistry.

[ccp4bb] wwpdb validation

2018-07-27 Thread wtempel
Hi,
did I hear correctly that the wwpdb validation pipeline can be accessed
from within ccp4 and/or phenix? If so, how does one access that
functionality in either software suite?
Many thanks.

[ccp4bb] Membrane protein structural biology posts in Liz Carpenter's group at the SGC, Oxford

2018-07-27 Thread Liz Carpenter
Dear All,

We have three positions available for membrane protein structural biologists at
the SGC in Oxford in Prof. Liz Carpenter's lab:

1. Membrane protein structural biology, pipeline and methods development
position (closing date 23rd August)

2. Structural biology of human ion channels and ABC transporters (closing
date 23rd August)

3. Structural biology of human ion channels, as part of a collaboration
with Pharma (closing date 13th August)

The third post would involve work both in Oxford and Biberach in Germany

The group studies human integral membrane proteins involved in genetic disease.
We work with geneticists to identify genes that are involved in
neuropsychiatry, cancer, rare and metabolic disease and inflammatory diseases.
We aim to produce protein, assays and structures, as well as small molecule
and protein binders. Through this work we aim to understand the role of these
proteins in disease and thus promote the development of novel therapies.
We use both crystallography and electron cryo-microscopy for structure
determination. The SGC and the University of Oxford provide an excellent
working environment, with access to world class facilities for all structural
biology, biochemical and biophysical studies.

Please follow the links below for more information:

1. Structural biology, pipeline and methods development position (closing
date: 23rd August, interviews during the week starting the 3rd September):
