A postdoctoral position is available in Dr. Fang Li's lab at the Department of 
Veterinary and Biomedical Sciences, University of Minnesota Twin Cities. 
Research involves structural and biochemical studies on the cell entry 
mechanisms of coronaviruses as well as drug and vaccine developments against 
coronavirus infections. Requirements include a strong background in molecular 
biology and protein biochemistry. Expertise in structural biology (cryo-EM or 
X-ray crystallography) is not required, but will be preferred. Candidates must 
have completed PhD at the time of the appointment. The initial appointment 
would be for 1 year, with renewal opportunities for several additional years. 
Start date is early Fall of 2020, negotiable. Salary is at NIH rates. More

Cities. Research involves structural and biochemical studies on proteins that 
guide invasion and replication of important viral pathogens.

Required Qualifications: 
 
Bachelor or master degree in Biology or other related biological science fields.
 
Must have experience in the following areas: molecular cloning, cell culture, 
and protein purification. 
 
The qualified candidate must have excellent oral and written communication 
skills; the ability to work independently and to think critically about their 
research; excellent organizational skills, enthusiasm, creativity and 
motivation to learn. 
 
Duties and Responsibilities:
 
70% - Perform molecular biology and protein biochemistry experiments to study 
virus entry into host cells. Whoever is hired will be supervised, but he/she 
will need to learn to be independent.
 
20% - Assist with various administrative duties related to the functioning of 
the laboratory.
 
10% - Updating inventories of supplies, ordering common chemicals and reagents 
for the laboratory.
