[ccp4bb] CryoEM position at FSU

2022-10-19 Thread Lieberman, Raquel L
Hi All,

I would like to make the community aware of the following job opportunity:

Florida State University is seeking an outstanding structural biologist to join
us at the Southeastern Center for Microscopy of MacroMolecular Machines
(SECM4). The SECM4 is a newly established center that will provide cryo-EM
access for structural biologists in the Southeast with services including
sample preparation, screening, data collection, and training. An FSU news item
describing the center can be found here:
https://news.fsu.edu/news/science-technology/2022/10/11/taking-pictures-on-a-molecular-level-fsu-biologists-receive-5m-nih-grant-to-build-cryo-electron-microscopy-center/

The cryo-EM specialist will support users in all aspects of cryo-EM but will
focus on specimen preparation and screening so prior experience (even if
limited) is attractive, but on-job training for well trained structural
biologists is available too.

Applicants with a PhD or Master’s degree in Biochemistry or related fields are
encouraged to apply.

Interested candidates should apply at
https://jobs.omni.fsu.edu/psc/sprdhr_er/EMPLOYEE/HRMS/c/HRS_HRAM_FL.HRS_CG_SEARCH_FL.GBL?Page=HRS_APP_JBPST_FL=U=Applicant=1=53257=1
and also email a brief cover letter stating your interest, a short CV and
names and contact information of three referees to Scott Stagg,
sst...@fsu.edu.

[ccp4bb] Postdoctoral positions available on protein misfolding in Atlanta, GA

2019-07-02 Thread Lieberman, Raquel L
The Lieberman lab in the School of Chemistry & Biochemistry at Georgia
Institute of Technology in Atlanta, GA invites applications for Postdoctoral
Fellows.
Our research projects focus on molecular aspects of protein misfolding in one
of two systems related to human disease. Our interdisciplinary lab combines
biochemical, biophysical, and cell biology methods with structural biology
approaches (X-ray crystallography, small angle X-ray or neutron scattering,
NMR, cryoEM). We seek to better understand what differentiates diseased
proteins from their wild-type counterparts, and use this information to develop
new diagnostics and therapies. More information is available on our website
http://ww2.chemistry.gatech.edu/lieberman/.
Candidates must have a Ph.D. degree in life sciences, chemistry, biological
physics, and related fields. Hands-on expertise and publication record in any
(but not all!) of the following areas is also required: protein biochemistry
(e.g. enzyme, binding assays, membrane proteins), biophysics (e.g.
spectroscopy, kinetics of aggregation, AFM imaging), cell biology (e.g.
mammalian cell culture, Western blotting), or structural biology (e.g.
crystallography, SAXS, SEC-MALS, NMR). Experience with molecular biology,
protein expression and purification are also desirable.
To be considered for a position, please send an email to Raquel Lieberman,
raquel.lieber...@chemistry.gatech.edu.
Include your curriculum vitae as well as a short cover letter describing
research experience, and why you think you would be a good fit for our research
team.
Georgia Institute of Technology is a top public university in the USA located
in the urban heart of Atlanta, GA. Georgia Tech is committed to recruiting,
developing, retaining, and engaging a diverse cadre of students, faculty, and
staff with a wide variety of backgrounds, perspectives, interests, and talents.

[ccp4bb] Long term storage for raw images/ crystallographic data sets

2018-11-29 Thread Lieberman, Raquel L
Dear All,

How do your labs handle long-term raw data backups? My lab is maxing out our
6TB RAID backup (with two off-site mirrors) so I am investigating our next long
term solution. The vast majority of the data sets are published structures
(i.e. processed data deposited in PDB) or redundant/unusable so immediate
access is not anticipated, but the size of data sets is increasing quickly with
time, so I am looking for a scalable-yet-affordable solution.

Would be grateful for input into various options, e.g. bigger HD/RAIDs, cloud
backup, tape, anything else.

I will compile.

Thank you,

Raquel
