Hi folks,

I would like to draw your attention to the following job ad:

http://www.embl.de/aboutus/jobs/jobs_embl_ebi_hinxton/2009/w_09_043_ebi/index.html

This is a postion for a senior scientific programmer to work with me at the Protein Data Bank in Europe at EMBL-EBI in (the real) Cambridge, UK.

The major task of this person will be to lead the development of a comprehensive validation tool that incorporates existing software and implements new and existing algorithms. The worldwide Protein Data Bank (wwPDB, http://www.wwpdb.org/) has set up a Validation Task Force (VTF, http://www.wwpdb.org/workshop/2008/index.html) to advise it on how best to validate X-ray crystal structures. The goal is to produce a comprehensive and state-of-the-art validation package that all wwPDB deposition sites will use and that will also be available for distribution. The VTF members have agreed to contribute code, algorithms and assistance with their implementation, and of course I (and the other wwPDB partners) will be also be involved in this work.

In addition to the work on the validation package, this person would also liaise with methods developers in the field on, for instance, format issues, work on the implementation of some external services (such as the Electron-Density Server, http://eds.bmc.uu.se) at the PDBe, and be a resource of knowledge and expertise in macromolecular crystallography for the PDBe teams (deposition and annotation, and databases and services).

Obviously, we hope to attract a senior person with a proven track and publication record in macromolecular X-ray methods development.

By the way - please note below the change in my e-mail address (not subscribed to ccp4bb yet, though) and affiliation per 1 June 2009.
