[cctalk] Good Inventory Program

2023-08-15 Thread Evan Linwood via cctalk

This is almost an impossible question to answer (!) but it might be worth
mentioning Pimcore. This is an open source master data management tool, meaning
that it supports both schema (data model) design and generation/design of UI
elements via a reasonably decent management interface.
It might even be overkill for this particular use case., but from memory the
web UIs that it generates don’t depend on front end libraries / Angular / React
etc & so may work with older browsers.
Perhaps another option is LibreOffice Base?

I run a server farm of over 300 machines.
Dedicating one to a mailing list at no cost is easy.
The admin work well that’s life ha.

Ah - now that's the spirit ! ;)
Yes the infrastructure is the smaller part of the problem - tinkering with the
software if it breaks is the thing. I'm up to my eyeballs already so I'll
gladly stand aside :)

Hi Al,

I didn't know about Jay retiring or what that means for the list - i.e. does it
need to find new infrastructure, new administraton/management, or both? I'm a
relatively background person in the vintage computing scheme of things but I do
have an involvement in the data centre / hosting area & so if no better options
were to come forward would be very happy to pitch in somehow.

I'm guessing this could be known to others on the list, but I haven't seen it
mentioned, so posting just in case.
There doesn't seem to be mention of any recovery effort in the comments (that I

Multiflow Trace 14/300 close to being scrapped in Texas

2016-07-15 Thread Evan Linwood
Hi All,

I noticed that the Multiflow race 14/300 system listed on eBay didn't sell
recently. I don't have any personal background with these machines but it
seems they could be both significant and rare? It's been sitting on eBay but
I wasn't sure if it had slipped between the cracks somehow? I've been in
contact with the seller and he's said that he's still hoping to sell it, but
that it has to be cleared soon (and would be scrapped). I don't live in the
US, so it's not an easy one for me to work with. Is this of interest to
anyone? Cheers Evan

RE: Help needed please re possible loss of a Burroughs B7800 CPU

2015-08-17 Thread Evan Linwood
Hi Nigel,
Thanks a lot for taking an interest and for posting this information.
The answer you got from the museum matches the original information I got, I
wasn't able to get anything further from there.
The chassis/backplane/card cages were actually quite interesting also, although
I guess it helps to have seen it firsthand to fully appreciate.
Of course the real value was in its rarity.
The building company involved was as helpful as they could be - I spoke to a
number of people with them, at the Uni and externally but sadly didn't get
there in the end!
(I've seen the 11/780, which is sitting inside a public area of the Uni at
Caulfield).
Thanks very much again - Cheers Evan

Hi Evan and others who might have been wondering, I managed to find out what
happened to the Burroughs B7800 that was under the stairs
at Monash university.

The good news is that the interesting parts, namely the indicator panels, have
been saved by the Monash Museum of Computing History.
They also retrieved the VAX 11/780 that was there too, and it is now in storage.
