No, it really goes to stdout.
Anyway, masking all error redirecting them to /dev/null would be too
heavy-handed.

I've noticed this as well, but it does seem to be limited to my FreeBSD
desktop and none of my Linux/Windows systems, and also limited to sites
doing HTTP "basic" authentication. It's pretty intermittent so it hasn't
come to the point where I'm annoyed enough to delve into the underlying

anymore. For example (notiche the "upgraded" line):
[root@localhost cron.d]# yum upgrade -y -q
Upgraded:
python3-perf-4.18.0-305.10.2.el8_4.x86_64
While yum historically had issue with the quiet option [1], this
