[CentOS] Raid 5 Q

I have a raid 5 built on an opensuse box that I just reinstalled Centos 6.3 on. Is it possible to rebuild the raid 5 array non-destructively? I have googled on this and have found using mdadm --scan --assemble list of fd devices. Will this do it? I sure wouldn't want to lose my data on the
