I'm watching it over on the Railo/Lucee forums / lists...

Re: Lucee

2015-01-30 Thread Michael Dinowitz

I saw the posts about it and wanted to get some research done before I
said anything. We all know those involved so it should be good. Needs good
talking points to move it beyond a niche...something I had already started
working on for CF. I'll post soon on those.

Railo / Lucee is definitely not a niche (compared to ACF) anymore. You
could say CFML is a niche, and it is (now).

Their list community is significantly more active than the CF-Talk and
pretty much all the projects we do are Railo (and will now be Lucee).

The only organizations I see still using ACF is in a legacy capacity in
large companies, school, and government institutions. Way more green field
work is being done in the Railo/Lucee space right now - from my perspective.

They definitely have some wrinkles to iron out. I'd say that the immediate

docs even, or CFQuickdocs. But they do have some work left to do.

I would agree if it said something like CFML-compatible scripting
language, drop in your Coldfusion code!. But the home page, and pretty
much everything else I found, carefully eschewed saying anything about
CMFL, so it wasn't clear to me for quite awhile that this was, in fact, a
CFML engine. It just kept says JVM scripting language so I was looking
for docs.

Re: Lucee

I get the impression that those doing the website are bit behind those
doing the language. I am sure they will catch up as the community
weighs in on what is needed.

The title of the page is Lucee - the CFML engine, but I agree that a
clearer description that includes a mention of CFML would be good
