I have success just having an index.cfm in the root directory of a
shared host that works a cfswitch statement against the cgi.server_name
(and some other stuff when necessary). I don't think this helps with
your aliasing, but CF mapping can probably handle that, and this does
manage

I am currently tasked with moving a set of ColdFusion 8 sites with different
domains to a new host. The original developer hosted the website out of his
house. Because he had full control over the Linux box there are several
symbolic links created - the file system knows that calls to what
I'd get a VPS at Viviotech. You'll be way under the hundreds a month you're
concerned about but you'll have the flexibility to run things the way you
want. You can even re-create the symlinks if you want.
