copies it from somewhere (the Registry?) to CF's location in the Registry?

Yes.. sort of. It does not copy it, but creates a DSN record in two places. Windows
itself keeps a record of each DSN in a different location than CF does. You can add a
DSN using the windows ODBC control panel and CF will recognize it.
