local install - ses non working(I think)

2014-12-23 Thread Matthew Smith

I have been developing on our live server as the site has been down for
some time. I am trying to get things right and just installed apache and
cf11 on my local box. This is the error I get when I try to bring up the
site's home page.

Any ideas, I am not sure what to try. Thanks.

MissingInclude Could not find the included template

Note:
If you wish to use an absolute template path (for example,
template=/mypath/index.cfm) with CFINCLUDE, you must create a mapping for
the path using the ColdFusion Administrator. Or, you can use
per-application settings to specify mappings specific to this application
by specifying a mappings struct to THIS.mappings in Application.cfc. br
Using relative paths (for example, template=index.cfm or
template=../index.cfm) does not require the creation of any special
mappings. It is therefore recommended that you use relative paths with
CFINCLUDE whenever possible.

Re: local install - ses non working(I think)

2014-12-23 Thread Matthew Smith

Yes, this is the code:
cfinclude
template=/site_theartoflovingcatsanddogs_com/index.cfm/cfid/#session.cfid#/cftoken/#session.cftoken#/index.cfm

What caught me off guard is that this has been working without problem for
many months on the live site, http://www.theartoflovingcatsanddogs.com

I guess my actual question, rephrased better, is why does this work on
crystaltech but not on my new cf11 install? I'm not sure of the cf version
for ct. I'm sorry I was not clear.

It is fairly clear that the path you are using for the include is
invalid. It needs to be a physical path, not a url, and I doubt if
 your physical path includes

 theartoflovingcatsanddogs_com/index.cfm/cfid/2/cftoken/60648468/index.cfm

Are you using a variable to build the include path?

Re: need help with two sites - willing to pay $45/hour

2014-07-23 Thread Matthew Smith

'
ok I got the pathing issue sorted. I am having a weird issue with the home
page formatting. I have a br and the page layout it putting the test to
the right, and the two last images are missing. Not sure what is going on.
Please download the latest files before you make any changes, I have added
text to the home page.

thanks.

 Matthew,

The site seemed to be responsive this morning, so I took a look at things
and have fixed the basic errors that were happening and the home page now
 loads properly.

 I've done the following.

Implemented an error handler in Application.cfm. So on error a full dump of
the error is shown using /error.cfm template. It is a very basic handler.
You may want to edit this to present something better to end users when
error occur, and maybe email the error detail to your self.

Fixed the cfquery(s) in /cfcs/qry-todatabase.cfc. Look like you were
attempting to use a standard connection string. cfquery uses the
datasource attribute which is configured in the CFAdmin (which you already
 provided as fatcat111).

The rest of the database calls in that file were using
#request.datasource#, so I did the same. This variable was missing, so I
set this in the /fbx_settings.cfm (see line 24). There was also an
additional syntax error and this was resolved as well.

Let me know of anything further.

How would you like to handle payment. I usually use PayPal, would this
suffice? In all I've spent ~2 hours on this.

 Regards,
 Byron

 There are several possibilities:
 - the portion of Application.cfc that has this line isn't being
executed prior to your request - where is this line in
Application.cfc? is it in one of the event handlers?
 - the request being executed isn't covered by that Application.cfc -
is it in the same directory?

on the CFCATCH tag is wrong as you have no type declared, and the code
on the first line inside the CFCATCH is the same as what you just
tried. So if it fails on the TRY it will fail inside the CFCATCH.

This is all very accurate except for one portion. CFCATCH doesn't
require a type. It's generally recommended that you specify a type,
but in the absence of that attribute it'll simply catch any exception
 thrown by the CFTRY.

Aside from that, can I recommend you *don't* use cfobject if at all
possible for this? Just use a variable assignment, and createObject(): it
makes for far more natural code:

 cfset myObj = createObject(cfcs.Foo)

Also, I only have 14 years of experience, so I'm not up there with you at

gives a bad vector for a hacker to put in sql and see what kind of stuff
got generated that produced the error.

Are you sure this table even has an identity column? If so, why do you
also need a GUID? Normally, you'd have one or the other, but not both.

which is better - cfx_image or cfimage?

2014-05-19 Thread Matthew Smith

Rather than having the site owner have to create thumbnails for each product, I
was planning on having cfimage resize the images as needed. I am having a
security issue that support is working on with me. The cfimage only needs to
run once so performance is not a huge issue. Looking through the SBA knowledge
base, I saw an article on cfx_image. Is this a better solution? My current
solution uses a background color that matches the site's, so I am not sure if
this is possible with CFX_image. Anyone know?

Thanks!

To get it to show images like that you would have to generate some html in

function. Add some css and you should have something pretty close to your

Hope this helps and Good luck :)

how much to charge for a e-commerce solution?

2014-05-03 Thread Matthew Smith

I need to put in a quote for an e-commerce solution. I have a solution that I
have developed over the last decade. It has paypal and cc integration, a
category and unlimited subcategory capability, the ability to handle unique,
limited, and unlimited items, and a transaction locking mechanism so no
duplicate order on unique or limited items.

I am meeting with the business owners this week to discuss. I will be
accepting about $650 in merchandise, though I could get the items for about
$400 online. This is normal for the industry. I would normally quote an
hourly rate but would rather have a flat price for this and maybe an option for
overage hours.

I am not the best for graphic design, so I would either contract that out or
get a template. Fixed costs include template, credit card gateway, cert.

I am figuring about 20 hours or so for labor, but I have put in countless hours
to get the solution to the point it is.

I am not sure what to quote and would really appreciate the help. Thanks!

Re: how much to charge for a e-commerce solution?

2014-05-03 Thread Matthew Smith

Great advice, thanks.

I would want a little for the initial set up. The merch I want would be fair I
think.

A monthly fee to cover hosting and the like would be fair. What about a
percentage of sales? I feel this would be appropriate as I would be motivated
to continue working on the site and do things like SEO and other promotion. Is
this ethical and something others do? If so, what is a reasonable percentage?

Thanks for the help!

Sounds like you have built a product. If it is already in use then you
may have a track record to rely on.

If so, I would NOT sell your solution for a fixed price.push for a
monthly subscription for your SaaS solution and earn recurring revenue ;-)

Of course you have to be in line with other such products and have a
reason why you are worth what you decide to charge as compared to the
competition.

just my 2 cents

I am talking about charging a licensing fee for your software - has
NOTHING to do with the customers sales (other than you may want to have
tiers of monthly charges for various levels of transaction volume).

Don't get caught up in their sales or your hosting costs - it is
software as a service (SaaS) - Microsoft doesn't ask for a piece of the
$ their clients make using their software - they charge what they think
it's worth and enough to make them a profit (MS bashing asideand yes
 I'd be on that bandwagon).

The way I handle it (as my system is customized for most new customers)
is that I charge my cost to do the customizations (or do them for free
if they are not too over the top). Then I make my money on recurring
revenue froma per transaction fee I charge to access to my system and
the professional services that come with it. As long as I am getting my
fee I enhance the system for free and add reports and other
customizations for free. Those are the broad strokes.

In other words - give them the razor (install/config/test/launch
services) and then sell them the blades (your monthly fee for as long as
 they use you).

Hope that better explains what I was on about ;-)

default, serve index.html first, and then other defined templates (like
index.cfm). You can control that lookup order, by moving index.cfm to
the front of the pack. But, again, it may be that you'll just have to
point your 404 page handler to a custom CF template to parse the url and
 treat the result.

low footprint(disk usage) dev enviroment

good to see you all.

SSD install on my laptop, need a vm os/cf install for dev. site(s) is on
crystal tech, so i guess as close to what they have as possible. i can go
apache if needed, though i think ct is running iis.

would prefer to not have to license an os if possible, though i could swing
it to maintain equality between the dev and live.

laptop has 8GB, so is a vm even worth it?

want to get a new site up today, so i need to be able to download rather
than wait on disks. all my stuff is at home.

thanks all!

Subject: low footprint(disk usage) dev enviroment

hello. i spent a lot of time posting here way back when, and then did
other things, and now i am posting again.

 good to see you all.

SSD install on my laptop, need a vm os/cf install for dev. site(s) is on
crystal tech, so i guess as close to what they have as possible. i can go
apache if needed, though i think ct is running iis.

would prefer to not have to license an os if possible, though i could swing
it to maintain equality between the dev and live.

laptop has 8GB, so is a vm even worth it?

want to get a new site up today, so i need to be able to download rather
than wait on disks. all my stuff is at home.

 thanks all!

extend application.cfc based upon condition

2010-08-31 Thread Matthew Smith

Using a shared host, and currently serving several different sites based
upon conditional code.

I have just done a site in fw/1, and would like to incorporate the site into
the codebase.

The fw/1 app has this in application.cfc:
cfcomponent extends=org.corfield.framework output=false

Is there another way to do this? I would like to extend application.cfc,
but only for one domain. Is there another way to extend a component without
using the extends attribute?

What would be the best way to go about this?

Re: extend application.cfc based upon condition

2010-08-31 Thread Matthew Smith

Ok, here is what I tried:

I removed the cfcomponent tags in the org.corfield.framework file, and
copied them to a folder.

I tried adding this:
cfif findnocase(domain.com,request.currentSiteDomain,1)
 cfinclude template=/fw1/fw1.cfm
cfinclude template=/fw1/settings-domain-com.cfm
cfelse
!--- All my other stuff for the other apps, including
the onRequestStart function ---!
/cfif

I thought I would be good to go, but I am getting this error on the new app
Routines cannot be declared more than once. The routine onRequestStart has
been declared twice in different templates.

I don't understand why I am getting this as the second onRequestStart is
within the cfelse and should not be seen.

calling a cfc function from the same cfc

2010-08-23 Thread Matthew Smith

I currently have a cfc to handle 404's that is called by my 404.cfm. It is
working fine, but I need to use the same cfc for different sites.

This works (very simplified, much more going on):
cfcomponent
cffunction name=handle_404 access=public returntype=void
cfargument name=requested_template type=string required=yes
 cfif arguments.requested_template eq /art-cat/
cfmodule
 template=/index.cfm
fuseaction=TheGallery.displayCategory
 key=#variables.category#
requested_template=#arguments.requested_template#
 page_num=#variables.page_num#
ignoresupresslayout=1
 /cfif
/cffunction
/cfcomponent

But this does not:

cfcomponent
cffunction name=handle_404 access=public returntype=void
 cfargument name=requested_template type=string required=yes
cfargument name=current_site_name type=string required=yes
 cfif arguments.current_site_name eq www_domain1_com
 cfset variables.tmp = domain1_404(arguments.requested_template)
/cfif
 /cffunction
 cffunction name=domain1_404 access=public returntype=void
output=no
 cfargument name=requested_template required=yes type=string
 cfif arguments.requested_template eq /art-cat/
cfmodule
 template=/index.cfm
fuseaction=TheGallery.displayCategory
 key=#variables.category#
requested_template=#arguments.requested_template#
 page_num=#variables.page_num#
ignoresupresslayout=1
 /cfif
/cffunction
/cfcomponent

I don't know if I am just calling the second function improperly? What
would be the best way to accomplish what I am doing?

Reason being is that you are not returning anything from this method as it

removing chr(10), chr(13), chr(9), chr(12)

2010-08-22 Thread Matthew Smith

I am trying to write a file to be uploaded to google base. I am having a
problem with the formatting. I'm not sure, but I think the item description

remove the subject line's characters?

I could wrap a replace in a replace etc but that seems sloppy.

Thank you.

Re: removing chr(10), chr(13), chr(9), chr(12)

2010-08-22 Thread Matthew Smith

Thank you for the help. It seems I am still missing the line feed somehow.

This is an example of the text that is giving me a problem, copied straight
from the db:
Laurel Burch artistic tote, JIO's cats
(style 4380 Large Square Tote) is a roomy 22 by 4 by 15.5. The inside
pocket combination has a zippered pocket, an open pocket, a velcro closure
cell phone pocket. The front kitty design has sequins and embroidery
detail. A striped pattern is on the back. Top zipper closure. Includes a
carved wood, hand painted kitty hang tag.

For some reason I am not catching it. Am I missing a character that I
should be replacing?

This is what I have:
cfset lineoutput = lineoutput
replacelist(qry_productsGetForIndex.shortdescription,
#chr(13)##chr(10)#,#chr(9)#,#chr(12)#, ) chr(32)
replace(qry_productsGetForIndex.productDescription, chr(9), , all)
chr(9)

The output to the text file still has the new line.

Depending on what you need to replace those chars with, this will simply

(I assumed that 13 10 were a single EOL set, but you could add a comma
in between there and in the replacement set, if needed.)

In the replaceList() put a comma between char 13 and 10 so it will catch
them individually instead of only when they're together (and add another
comma to the second attribute as well). Sometimes text will only have a
line break (10) without the carriage return (13).

image dimensions on mapped drive file

2010-08-16 Thread Matthew Smith

Thank you.

In my own experience, this depends on the database and/or database
drivers. I've been able to consistently invoke stored procedures
 against SQL Server this way.

Best way to return generated html from cfc

2010-04-05 Thread Matthew Smith

I have a cfc that will generate some html to be displayed inline. I was
just going to reuturn a string rather than have it output directly. Is this
the proper way to do that?

How do I save generated html from cf code into a variable to be returned as
a string?

Thanks.

Re: Best way to return generated html from cfc

2010-04-05 Thread Matthew Smith

We are selling unique items. When the user looks at their cart or right
before the last step in placing an order, I verify that no one has bought
the item or it has been removed from inventory for some other reason.

So I want a cfc that will check to see if adjustments need to be made, and
if so, display the changes to the quantities in the cart to the user.

I've put the functionality in the cart cfc, right now I have the functions:
check_item_quantities
display_adjustments

I could wrap those two in another function that handles everything. Not
really sure of the best way to do this. Just getting into cfcs(yeah, i
know, kinda slow there). Very cool stuff. I'm pretty much rewriting the
site to use them.

I've been struggling to draw a clear line between the usage of CFCs and
Custom Tags, but one general trend I see developers practicing seems to be
to put display code for reuse in Custom Tags rather than in CFCs. For
example, I have a Custom Tag that can spit out either a printable HTML
invoice or the same invoice in PDF--and customize contents of the invoice
based on user input. The same logic can very well be encapsulated in a CFC
instead, but the Custom Tag is better for black-box processing like this
one. It's hard to tell without knowing more of your situation, but just
thought I'd share the thought. :-)

session variable timeout

2010-03-12 Thread Matthew Smith

I think I know this, but want to verify.

If I do a isdefined on one session variable, is the timeout for all session
variables reset?

So if I have a isdefined(session.loggedin) check and it is true, I can
assume that all session variables are still defined, assuming they were
coming into that portion of the code?

Thanks!

Re: session variable timeout

Ok, just to clarify, does the count down restart with the load of
application.cfm, or is it when a session variables is referenced?

On Fri, Mar 12, 2010 at 9:42 AM, Mike Chabot mcha...@gmail.com wrote:

Kinda and yes. Simply accessing the page within the timeout limit
should maintain the session. Your code in the second question should
be an adequate check of whether or not the session is active. All
session variables inside the user's session would expire at the same
time. StructKeyExists(session, loggedin) is more efficient than
 IsDefined().

You didn't post the CFC, so we can't see for sure. But are you sure
you checked the spelling? It's HARDLINKQUANITY, not
 HARDLINKQUANTITY?

You shouldn't have to do anything. Just publishing a new file should
work, unless you're caching the CFC instance in memory - and it
doesn't appear that you're doing that.

In some rare cases, you may have to delete the compiled CFC from the
server. You can see the name of that CFC from the stack trace:

 cfhardlinkgenerator2ecfc446576818$funcLINKGENERATOR

Each method within a CFC is actually compiled as a separate class. By
default, these live in \coldfusion9\wwwroot\WEB-INF\cfclasses, I
 think.

Re: session variable timeout

2010-03-12 Thread Matthew Smith

Cool. Thank you.

On Fri, Mar 12, 2010 at 12:39 PM, Mike Chabot mcha...@gmail.com wrote:

The timer is reset when the session object is referenced, which
happens on every page request. ColdFusion touches the session object
on every ColdFusion page request, even if you don't specifically do
this in your code. The session timer is not reset if you access file
types that aren't served by CF, such as HTML files.

There are some hidden functions which allow you to list out every
session for every user within the application, not just the current
session for the current user. So you could see, for example, that
there are 20 active sessions on your server and you can see details
about each session. One side effect of making use of this unofficial
ability is that all the timers for all the user session get reset when
you list them out like this, simply because you touched every session
in order to list them out.

Below is a CFC function that you can ping every X minutes from inside
of an Adobe Flex app in order to keep the session alive on the
ColdFusion server. Notice how the function is empty, yet it does the
 job.
 cffunction name=keepSessionAlive access=remote output=no

Kinda and yes. Simply accessing the page within the timeout limit
should maintain the session. Your code in the second question should
be an adequate check of whether or not the session is active. All
session variables inside the user's session would expire at the same
time. StructKeyExists(session, loggedin) is more efficient than
  IsDefined().

If I do a isdefined on one session variable, is the timeout for all

So if I have a isdefined(session.loggedin) check and it is true, I
 can
assume that all session variables are still defined, assuming they
 were
coming into that portion of the code?

   Thanks!

chossing a methodolgy

2010-03-10 Thread Matthew Smith

I've been coding CF for around 12 years now. I've been using fusebox 3
since it came out and love it. I can do a site pretty quick with it and I'm
very comfortable there. So comfortable that I haven't looked any further.
Not a good thing for growth.

As I've grown as a developer, my applications have become more comlex, and
the way some things are done in fusebox 3 feel a bit kludgy to me now.

So, It's time to try something new.

I tried fusebox 4 for a few days when it came out, couldn't get the basic
app to work, and gave up. I'm willing to give it another go, and noticed
they are up to 5.5.1 now. I'm considering investing the time to give it
another try.

The documentation link under Learning Fusebox for 5.5 is broken. Only
tutorials are for fusebox 4 and earlier. The book is $40, a bit much I
think.

So, before I spend $40 and, even more valuable to me, time, any
recommendations? Is fusebox 5.5.1 worth it or should I go to something
else?

Thanks.

calling a template but not waiting for it to finish running

2010-03-09 Thread Matthew Smith

I have some code that I would like to run with each page request, but it
might take a while and I'd like to not have to wait for it to finish
running.

So basically, I'd like to initiate a template in Application.cfm, without a
cfinclude. Is this possible?

This will be on crystaltech, a shared hosting enviroment, so please keep in
mind the tag restrictions.
