dbDiscover - Update available at RIAForge
Hi everyone! To those of you that have downloaded dbDiscover from RIAForge, I have made some updates over the past week. (To those that have not, check it out and let me know what you think!) The largest portion of the update is the ability to generate Entity Relationship Diagram images of the selected database in the web browser. It is just a first cut of the ERD capability, with all of the line math being done by hand. I plan to improve on it in the near future. All of the details are over at the RIAForge project site... http://dbdiscover.riaforge.org Thanks! Need some fresh eyes on an application
Hi everyone! I have been working on a web-based SQL Server database management utility written in jQuery/ColdFusion in my spare time over the past few weeks. Anyone who is interested, please check it out at: http://www.nucomsolutions.com/dbDiscover I'm looking for folks to help me put a few new sets of eyes on it. I know there is a ton of functionality missing, but I have most of the basics down. I'm looking to give this puppy away for free when it is in decent production-level working condition. Anyone interested in helping out? If you want to develop on the app, too, that would be awesome :) I'm open to anything! Thanks! RE: Trying to understand application.cfc...
Rick, One thing I do is to place a piece of code into the onRequestStart method to reinit the application variables. This will let you set variables in the onApplicationStart method and be able to change them without having to restart ColdFusion or wait for the application to timeout. In you onRequestStart() function, place the following: cfif StructKeyExists(URL, reinit) cfscript OnApplicationStart(); /cfscript /cfif Then, call your website like http://www.yourwebsite.com?reinit=1 This will allow you to update your Application scoped variables if you have them all set up in the onApplicationStart() function. re: getting path of not existent directory
I had this very problem when creating one of the Websites I used to own. IIS doesn't pass directory requests through to ColdFusion, so you will have to do some handling in your custom 404. In your 404.cfm, look at the CGI.HTTP_REFERER value. It will contain 404; and some other stuff. The other stuff is what you want to parse to determine where the user was going. I have some code somewhere, which I might not be able to dig up until this evening if you would like it. Using application.cfc, I can properly serve this page, using the onMissingTemplate method: domain.com/art/paintings-21/index.cfm I am parsing the path obtained from #arguments.template# to get the key(21) and display the page by calling /404.cfm with the template info. I am having trouble doing the same with this, though: domain.com/art/paintings-21/ It does not seem to invoke the onMissingTemplate method, and rather calls /404.cfm directly. Ray, Try placing a blank Application.cfm file in the directory containing the CFCs for the Web Service.
