you might want to look at pengoworks client-server gateway. This will allow you to retrieve info from the server without a refresh.

It works for me. Does flex create a source file (FLA), or just the swf ? It seems to take time for loading. Message appears immediately, but the loading messages starts the 1st time the pages runs. Its appears on other times later(ie. refresh), but loads faster. Are you using CFMX

If the webserver sends it you can extract it from the headers in cfhttp.
