The heartbleed bug allowed anyone to ask my mail server to give them the last few hundred bytes of data that passed through the server including user names and passwords used to authenticate. No guessing needed. Pretty serious bug. It doesn't only affect Hmail.. it also affects many non windows web servers. Al, Be sure to revoke and reissue the SSL certificate you use with hMail in addition to the upgrading and changing passwords you did. If you don't there is a possibility the attacker can impersonate your server. (I run hMail too - it's simple but seems to work well.) We use either Hmail mostly for SMTP, sometimes SmarterMail which is free for SMTP also. Which email server do you guys use? We use Visnetic Email server. It may be end of life but still works pretty flawlessly. all of a sudden it sent out 2 million emails from one of my accounts. I would suspect that they guessed or hacked your account password to authenticate unless you are only relying on SSL to allow relaying. We get this all the time where over a period of months we see attempts to guess passwords on SMTP accounts then the low entropy passwords gets guessed and they authenticate and attempt to send out mail. Most of the time we catch it because we only allow local domains and accounts to forward email thru our outbound server. we use it as a nice configurable relay for internal use. but no apache. it's windows so in not sure about heart bleed. Set obApp = CreateObject(hMailServer.Application) That looks like VB syntax. CF's createObject requires the type parameter for com objects. I got it.. Stupidest mistake I made in a long time.. I was trying to run it on my test server.. which doesn't have hmail installed.
