 Presentation 1: Ayudh Nagara

 Topic: Web Widgets
 * What, Why, How?
 * The widget business model
 * Basic framework and tools
 * Getting around the AJAX same origin rule
 * Demo

Ayudh Nagara is co-founder and director of Xilo Online, a web and
mobile payment gateway provider. He has been using ColdFusion since
Version 2, and ColdFusion remains the primary application server for
this business, as well as other web application projects he has worked
 on over the years.

Prior to that, Ayudh worked for IBM for over 25 years in a number of
 technical, sales and management roles.

Ayudh's current area of interest and continued learning is in the fast
growing area of rich UI's and front-end web application development
covering AJAX, JSON, jQuery, DHTML, CSS and Javascript.

 Presentation 2: Phil Haeusler

 Topic: Multi-Device Mobile Development

See how simple it is to use Flash Builder to build apps for Apple,
Android and Blackberry Playbook devices. Using the Flex Mobile
components and Adobe AIR, we'll cover the work flow of developing a
multi-device app from the setting up of an empty project to deploying
the app on multiple-devices and publishing to the Apple, Android and
 Blackberry online stores.

And to prove that it's not all smoke and mirrors, we'll build a social
app that can be deployed to mobile devices at the user group.

Phil is an independent software consultant who codes for food. Often
found using ColdFusion, Flex and the greater Adobe product stack, Phil
advocates best practice approaches to development methodologies,
testing and deployment security. He is a long time RocketBoots partner
 and CodeWar quizmaster.

Re: [cfaussie] Recap: CFUG / MFUG Melbourne December 2010: Combined CF/Flex UG Xmas Dinner

2010-12-22 Thread Steve Armstrong
Influenced by my graphic designer wife, I have decided to go with CS5 Design
Premium! Thank you to everyone involved with organising/hosting the
Melbourne CFUG - look forward to seeing you all again next year.

The prize is much appreciated, Merry Christmas!

On 19 December 2010 13:24, Peter Robertson peter.r.robert...@gmail.comwrote:

Thanks to all who attended last Thursday, from where I sat people
seemed to be enjoying themselves and lots of good tech discussion (and
 general gossip) ensued.

As promised, we raffled the six-monthly software prize, taking into
account attendances at the CFUGs for the second half of the year. You
got your name on a ticket for the draw for each time you attended.
We'll be continuing this practice in the coming year, with the
additional refinement that presenters will get a bonus entry!

The lucky winner from the CFUG for this year was Steve Armstrong.
Congratulations Steve! You now need to contact me offline straight
away so that I can arrange for Adobe to send you your prize. (peter
at p-robertson dot com should do it). This needs to be finalized
before the end of the month. Go to the Adobe store and select a full-
license product costing up to US$2,100. It must be a discreet
product, not an online service, nor an upgrade or anything like that.
You will be getting a license and download instructions, (not a
physical box product). Send me the details, along with the email
address that you'd like Adobe to use, and your hardware platform (Mac
or PC). You might like to let the list know what you choose?

Congratulations also to Mr Buzzy and Phil Haeusler, each proud winners
of Adobe drink containers. I'll deliver these to you at our next
 CFUG.

So, there's a moral here, participate in your local UG and you stand
to be rewarded! The more you participate, the better your chances.

Also, we'd really, really like your input for what to do in the new
year. Let us know your comments on format, topics, etc. We need to
get attendances up, especially if we want to draw presenters from out
 of town.

Best wishes to all for the holiday season

[cfaussie] Silent Printing to a Named Printer

We are currently developing a ColdFusion based POS application. We would
like to add the ability to silently print a plain text document to a named

be the client's default printer.

Do we have anyone on cfaussie who has been able to acheive this?

'equation editing' software within their applications?

software that I used).

I am specifically looking for something that can be integrated with a rich

We have a couple of Community related irons in the fire and will

What would be of great help to us in the meantime would be a hands up

[cfaussie] Re: Strange calculation behavior on CF 7.02

2007-02-20 Thread Steve Armstrong
Andrew,

To say that it has nothing to do with ColdFusion is incorrect - as a
developer has come across the issue developing an application using
ColdFusion. Sure it is an 'across the board of programming languages' issue
- but that doesn't mean that Adobe cannot note the issue in its
documentation and training guides - which is what Gareth was suggesting.
Robin's suggestion looks to be the neatest solution so far.

Indicating you know how Coldfusion works really proves nothing, I'm quite
aware of how it all works. I'm just annoyed that Coldfusion doesn't deal
with this situation better than it does.

Once again, Javascript, although not strictly typed, is a typed language.
If I could type in Coldfusion I would.

Also, Coldfusion should get this one right, but it doesn't cfdump
