However our network manager has already, sorted the client out. We had
already done what you suggested, until the IP address is sorted.

Our client had their own network guy, who really as far as I am concerned
shouldn't be out there doing this work. But that is another story, they had
an internal mail server and that server was sending mail out as the server
name. Minus any domain information, I guess I don't have to tell you how
much of a mistake that was.

If you get blacklisted, make sure your ISP gives you a trusted email
server. As understand it, blacklisting usually occurs when a mail
server is given an IP address in a dynamic IP address range. Dynamic
IP addresses are usually assigned to home/private internet accounts
and it's these types of accounts from which spam is sent. Also make
sure your ISP is diligent in policing mail sent through their email
servers. They should banning user who use their servers for sending
spam, otherwise that server gets a bad reputation. (see
http://www.mail-abuse.com and http://www.senderbase.org)
