*Position Summary:*
Our client is looking for a DevOps (Development Operations) Engineer that
will be a subject matter expert (SME) for AWS infrastructure, scripting,
and operationalization of development initiatives. The DevOps Engineer will
possess the skills, attitude and hands-on experience necessary to work with
the Development team to provide stable, highly available infrastructure to
ensure the application code delivery is in line with the objectives and
customer requirements using the AWS service fabric. As a DevOps Engineer,
you will be a member of a global team responsible for Operations and
Customer Support for worldwide deployments in multiple data centers with
hundreds of servers. The ideal candidate will combine strong knowledge of
DevOps as a concept, AWS infrastructure and capabilities, as well as
attainment of a deep understanding of the Client's application portfolio.
*Job Functions & Responsibilities: *
This resource will be managing all aspects of operations and directly
managing the DevOps Team in:
- Qualifying new releases with functional tests
- Documenting task as you go
- Running performance benchmarks
- Developing monitoring scripts and run books using Chef
- Guiding customers through new deployments
- Supporting mission critical deployments and 24x7 operations
- Managing large-scale distributed database architectures
- Managing world-class distributed system technology including clustered
system, distributed database, distributed computing, distributed storage,
etc.
- Automated QA with continuous testing (occasionally)
*Experience and Skills:*
- Operational, Systems Administration and Scripting experience required
- Proven, hands-on knowledge of Perl, Python or Ruby scripting languages
as well as Red Hat Linux
- Proven, hands-on knowledge of Linux or BSD systems operated on a
virtualization layer like AWS EC2 (Xen).
- A thorough understanding of connectivity services and protocols like
DNS, BGP, HTTPS, and SMTP
- Direct hands-on experience with AWS services such as:
- EC2 (Elastic Cloud Compute)
- AWS VPC (Amazon Web Services Virtual Private Cloud)
- S3 (Simple Storage Service)
- Route53
- CloudFormation
- CloudSearch
- Experience with Netflix open source toolset
- Systems operation experience in supporting 24x7 services with a
scalable product that serves high volumes of actively subscribed users
- *Experience in AWS capacity planning, reporting and optimization*
- *Proven, direct hands-on experience in scripting for
monitoring/deployment using Puppet, Chef to automate
task/deployment/installs is required*
- Hands-on working knowledge of monitoring and graphing systems (e.g.,
Copperegg)
- Demonstrated experience in handling new deployments that contain
dozens to hundreds of Linux based server systems
- Proven experience in deploying application servers through the full
product life cycle including rolling upgrades on running services for
significantly high volume of subscribers
- Knowledge of server lockdown and hardening procedures
- Knowledge in data center deployment (including multi OS environment
set-up and management)
- Ideal candidate possesses a driven determination and demonstrative
methods to hunt down difficult bugs in production systems using system logs
and other run-time statistics
- Experience in working with counterparts in another time zone to
provide 24X7 overlap coverage
- Experience in being on an on-call rotation list for 2nd level
operations support
- Direct, hands-on experience in developing run books for use by 1st
level operations support
- Excellent planning, organizational, documentation, and presentation
skills
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail
- Highly motivated and willing/capable of inspiring/mentoring others on
the team
- Ability to work independently on numerous activities and provide
guidance to others on the team
- Strong Oral and written communication skills
- Strong critical thinking and problem solving skills
- Working knowledge of Enterprise Network, WAN and VLAN management and
troubleshooting
- Strong ability to manage multiple tasks with frequent interruptions
*Education and Training:*
- Bachelor's degree in technical field or equivalent experience,
certifications, or extensive technical training.
- AWS certifications desired
*Travel Requirements:*
- Minimal travel; 10 15%
