*Job Description:*
The candidate for the above-captioned position should exhibit the following
requirements:-
- 3 to 5 years in an IBM-AIX, Linux, HP-UX and Sun Solaris Unix environment
- Experience in a large, 24x7 environment
- Experience with Complex Virtualized systems
- Experience with Veritas Storage Foundations products

System administration position involving management of multiple Unix
servers in a highly dynamic environment.
Work as part of a team in support of operational and project related
activities. Provide advanced technical and operational support to other
departments and teams as required in support of client business objectives.

*Primary Duties and Responsibilities:*
- Provide technical support for Unix related project activities.
- Participate in design review sessions, guide development and architecture
teams on delivering highly available and scalable solutions.
- Build and modify systems to meet project and user requirements.
- Apply patches and upgrades to operating systems and layered software as
required.
- Provide advanced troubleshooting for applications and systems with
emphasis on root cause analysis
- Provide 24x7 on call support as part of a scheduled rotation with other
team members
- Automation of system administration tasks
- Establish standards, policies and procedures to leverage best practices
in the operation of the system administration teams.
- Also responsible for other Duties/Projects as assigned by business
management as needed.
- Provide technical advice and expertise to junior staff members

*Secondary Duties and Responsibilities:*
- Write and maintain documentation describing changes and modifications to
all systems
- Participate in meetings and conference calls related to project and
troubleshooting activities
- Research solutions to various business and technical problems, evaluate
alternatives and be able to present recommendations and justifications to
management
- Provide mentoring to fellow system administrators, systems programmers
and others
- Act as technical liaison in support for Unix system administration
related project activities



*Position Requirements   Functional/Technical Skills:*
- Experience in administering HP Blade system hardware
- Experience in Installation, configuration and maintenance of VMWare and
Linux environments
- Experience in Configuring and supporting vSphere ESX hosts with shared
storage fiber channel, iSCSI, NFS, etc.
- Experience in resource management – creation of resource pools, managing
VMs in the resource pools.
- Experience in IP sub-netting, VLANs, Load Balancing, and High
Availability (HA) architectures
- Experience in performance tuning Linux and IBM virtualized servers (ex.
Kernal parameters, system parameters, etc.)
- Experience in Installation and configuration of HA environment using
Veritas Cluster Server and HACMP
- Experience in Configuring and administering Logical Volume Manager and
Veritas Volume Manager.
- Experience in Patch and Package administration
- Experience in Shell scripting and programming (KSH, TCL/Tk, PERL, AWK) to
accomplish day to day system administration task
- Experience in using monitoring tools such as IBM Tivoli, HP Openview
- Experience in using ILO/IMM/HMC for remote access of servers
- Experience in Troubleshooting Hardware and Operating system related issues
- Experience in System Fault Tolerance Design, Business continuity and
Disaster recovery planning
- Experience in Configuring Unix Security baseline
- Experience in supporting and troubleshooting networking services and
protocols: TCP/IP, DNS, NFS, LDAP, FTP, SSH, SNMP, SSL, HTTP, etc.
- Familiarity with HP, Sun/Oracle and x86 hardware architecture.
- Familiarity with SAN, NAS and other storage technologies.
- Thorough knowledge of physical and logical disk systems and their impact
on performance
- Be self-motivated and able to meet objectives with little or no direct
supervision.
- Display strong inter-personal and communication skills.
- Requires competency in customer focus, change & innovation, strategic
thinking, relationship building & influencing and result focus.
