Position Summary/Purpose of Position:

The College of Information Studies at the University of Maryland, College
Park (Maryland’s iSchool) and the University of Maryland Institute for
Advanced Computer Studies (UMIACS) invite applications for an open rank
tenure-track or tenured position with a focus on computational support for
information access and analytics. The successful candidate will teach at
the undergraduate and graduate level, engage in an active program of
high-impact research, provide research advising to students at all levels,
and engage in service to the profession and shared governance within the
university. Assistant professors are hired for 3 years, with potential
renewal for three more years and tenure. Associate Professors can be hired
with tenure, or with the potential for future tenure. Professors are hired
with tenure. For tenured positions, the tenure home will be the iSchool. A
joint appointment in UMIACS is possible for well qualified candidates whose
research involves advanced computational methods. UMIACS faculty have
renewable term appointments. Salary and benefits are competitive based upon
qualifications and experience.
Minimum Qualifications:

The successful candidate will have a passion for research and teaching, and
a record of research, teaching and service that meets the iSchool criteria
for the requested rank (see

doctorate in information studies, computer science, informatics, or a
related field is required at the time of appointment.
Preferences:

Examples of research topics that are of interest for this position include
information retrieval systems, applied machine learning, social network
analysis, and algorithmic transparency and accountability; candidates with
interests in other related topics are equally encouraged to apply.
