I met some interesting people in our neighborhood this past week. Denise Nelson, who works at the Little Shop of Hardware in Hampden, is one of the first 100 users of Linux. She started using Linux in 1991 and is one of the first Linux kernel developers. She was born in Finland and knew Linus Torvalds and his roommate in college.
This weekend there was a meeting of the Maryland-DC-Virginia Section of the Mathematical Association of America at Morgan State. I'd never been on the campus before, and I was impressed. Their Dixon Science Building and Murphy Fine Arts Center are new and very nice looking. I met Jim Leveque, a professor in the math department who lives on the 2700 block of Calvert. He's a longtime colleague of Steve Gewirtz. The conference banquet was hosted at the Faculty dining room. We got to meet the head chef, Mr. Michael Ashby, who lives at 2800 Calvert. At the Abell Street Fair, the Silent Auction featured some pieces donated by Atlantic Stained Glass. They looked nice, so we'd thought we'd look to give them some business. Kathleen and I like the stained glass transom window Mary and Wendy have with their street number over their front door, so we asked if Atlantic did that. Joe Cardamone, the owner, made a house call, and then emailed us a sketch of a design that uses features from the stained glass in our front window. It looks quite nice. We can't wait to have that built and installed. --Emil _______________________________________________ Chat mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://charlesvillage.info/mailman/listinfo/chat_charlesvillage.info
