[Chat] trash
In the alley, between the 3100 blk Guilford and Abell, there r 3 groups of garages.Heading North up the alley, by the end group, is a trash can filled with yuk, water and more debri. It is gross. I ran into an environmental worker with the CVCBD. I asked him about it. He stated nothing could be done since it was a privately owned can. After a bit of back and forth with him he finally said he would look at it. I doubt he did although he did a thorough job of cleaning 32nd st, by the open space, twice. After someone else had done it. Is there someone, familiar with the alley, who would take a look? thanks judy ___ Chat mailing list Chat@charlesvillage.info http://charlesvillage.info/mailman/listinfo/chat_charlesvillage.info archive: http://www.mail-archive.com/chat@charlesvillage.info/

I saw the chair. The trash can was near the other side. It's a pestilence waiting to happen. What I saw was a health hazard. I was not receiving and anything from chat or disc. Went to the archives to see what replies there were to the trash issue. #1 Who's responsibility would it be to notify Hopkins? #2 Should Jon Walters, new liaison between students and community be contacted. Anyone know Jon's email address. Teaching sanitation 101 to Hopkins students is absurd. These are the so called future leaders of American. We are doomed. Mr Hill, I understand that no tax money is being used. The CVCBD is not a municipality. Since many municipalities are incompetent,I hope the CVCBD is not using them as an example of what to do. This is extravagance out of control. I am sure Witt Industries is reputable. They have been in business a long time, probably due to frivolous purchases. I cannot conceive of any rationale that would justify this waste of money. Re: [Chat] trash cans
Judy, if you're going to lecture everyone that they should buy American, you can't then start complaining that it's too expensive to do so unless you can demonstrate that it's possible to find equally high quality trash cans for less. I'm sure it's possible to find ones made in Asia for a fraction of the price (www.nytimes.com/2007/11/26/nyregion/26manhole.html tells the story of how New York City began buying manhole covers made in India because they were so much cheaper), but you would be against that, right? I'm sure it's also possible to find lower quality ones that won't last as long, but then you're pushing the CVCBD to be penny-wise and pound-foolish because they'd probably end up paying more in the long run. Can you show that similar institutions are able to purchase American-made, high-quality trash cans for less? If not, then I don't understand why you're complaining. -Matthew -Original Message- From: jberlin jdy...@verizon.net To: David Hill davidh...@charlesvillage.org; Tweefie Millspaugh tmillspa...@semmes.com; The Charles Village Chat List chat@charlesvillage.info; Charles Village Discussion List discuss...@charlesvillage.info; Mary Pat. Re: [Chat] trash cans
Thank you Matthew! Although $600.00 is expensive--if CV bought $50.00 cans, they would be stiolen or blown away every week -- realizing that they are on the streets 24 / 7. At $50.00 each per week, it would be $2600 for one location per year -- or if one disappeared per month, it would be $600.00 per year. You do the math -- and thank you for buying USA. I don't know about everyone else, but I do not want to see beat up trash cans blowing around Charles Village. I am not an eliteist, but I do appreciate a vibrant-clean neighborhood. Do you remember the free cans that the City gave away 3 years ago--as we can see, they have all disappeared. As I see the examples on the web page, there are opportunities for signage on the cans to either promote the neighborhood or to sell advertising to local companies. Would someone clarify the trash/recycling pickup. I finally bought both a yellow trash container and a yellow recycling bin. I thought trashcans had to have lids/covers, yet the one I bought and the ones I've seen do not have covers. What does one do? Also, are the items that are in the yellow recycling bins in plastic bags or not Finally, does Poly still have a drop-off place for recycling old televisions and computer items? Re: [Chat] trash picking
Judy-- I would hope that you would try to find out whose garbage you were rifling and return the money to that person. I personally have no problem with people picking up visible items left outside astrash--if no one wants that banged-up table and I can use it in my yard, so be it. But I have aBIG problem with people who "pick" through small trash, sincewhat you call trash picking isoneway peoplesteal identities. Not everyone is careful enough about what goes into the trash, and people intent on stealing identies will rifle trash looking forcredit card bills, bank statements, and other identifying numbers. Thus, if I saw you or anyone else picking through my trash, I would be very angry, would chase you off, and might in some circumstances call the cops. I have certainly called neighbors when I have seen people going through their trash. Again, I hope you will try to return the money. What's dumped in the public alley as trash is up for grabs. No one, including the police, can stop anyone from going through anything in the public domain. If you value something and don't want anyone else to have it, refrain from putting it into the alley for the trashguys, and those who may proceed them. Demanding that someone return what's found in the public domain, including cash, is arrogant.
