Field Coordinator: Chiapas Peace House Project Chiapas Peace House Project strives for social justice through education, network building, volunteer opportunities and support for Chiapas organizations and communities. Our center in San Cristobal, Chiapas provides orientation, affordable housing and a space for reflection and support for activism and solidarity work in Mexico. We now can support twelve volunteers, have an extensive weekly workshop series and have formed relationships with a broad range of organizations and communities. In 2006-2007 we will expand our work into Oaxaca and develop programming that bridges immigration issues with our work in Mexico. The Field Coordinator is responsible for all aspects of the program in Chiapas, managing the Peace House and coordinating the volunteers. We will notify you by May 1st. Requirements: Fluency in Spanish and English Experience in Latin America (Chiapas preferred) Commitment to social justice, awareness of Chiapas conflict, neoliberal globalization, immigration issues and indigenous rights movements. Ideal candidates will be independent, creative, flexible and motivated Preferred Candidates: Experience organizational development and fundraising Teaching, workshop facilitation experience People person, experience networking, mediating conflicts, volunteer support, writing analytical articles, communal living Supervised by Chiapas Peace House Board of Directors Full time, 40 hours/week Compensation: $200/month living expenses stipend (possible raise after 3 month evaluation), $35/month health insurance stipend, $40/month rent stipend Field Coordinator will live the Peace House (communal housing) for 3 months and then will have the option seeking other housing. Living in Chiapas is very affordable. $200 dollars a month will easily cover food and all basic expenses. Job will include travel, rugged environments, potentially dangerous situations. Oaxaca Program Coordinator: Chiapas Peace House Project The Oaxaca Program Coordinator will be responsible for developing our program in Oaxaca, networking, establishing relationships with communities and organizations and fundraising. The long term goal of the position will be to create a center for education, exchange and solidarity work for local and international activists in Oaxaca. Part of the Oaxaca Program Coordinator's duties will be fundraising with the Board of Directors to extend and make position full time. Ideal candidates would be able to make a 1 year commitment, but this is flexible. Candidates must be available to be in Mexico by June 1st. We will notify you by May 1st. Stipend for housing is also available but amounts are to be determined. Oaxaca Program Coordinator will live in the Chiapas Peace House (communal housing) for a training period. Living in Mexico is very affordable. $100 dollars a month will cover basic expenses, but Coordinator may also chose to take on other work (such as teaching English classes or translating) to earn extra money.
