Hi! I have recently put some effort into working towards support of full unicode and R7RS compliance, as preparatory work for the next major release of CHICKEN. See

for details and the current status, in particular with respect to
incompatibilities
with CHICKEN 5 that are to be expected. I also plan to clean up some obsolete C
macros and move the "feathers" debugger into an egg.
