In the last few days, compiling git snapshots of Master, et. al., has failed
after invoking identify.sh; gcc emits errors about not finding files:
buildid, buildbranch, and buildtag.h .
Seems identify.sh is trying to get info from a .git directory, but the git
snapshots don't have
