Protesters display a puppet depicting Italian Premier Silvio Berlusconi
wearing a sign reading Small man, big corrupter, during a rally in central
 Rome, Saturday, Feb. 27, 2010.

Italy has been hit by a nationwide worker strike following a call by the
country's largest trade union, which has protested at Rome's economic and
 immigration policies.

Called upon by the Italian General Confederation of Labor (CGIL), various
cities saw workers bringing the public services to standstill for an entire
day and freezing the public transport networks for four hours, Reuters
 reported.

Hundreds of thousands of protesters were also reported to have taken to the
 streets of the capital, Rome.

We've had enough Silvio (Berlusconi), we are fed up. He talks and talks but
does everything just for himself, said marcher Stefano Cavallaro.

The left-wing CGIL of 6-million-strong membership has been reportedly pressing
Rome to ease the tax load on the current and former workers, secure
employment, and overturn its tough policies vis-à-vis immigrants, the agency
 said.

Catholic Child Abuse -- Nuns Also Accused
 Radio Netherlands, 9 March 2010

Following recent reports about sexual abuse of children by Dutch priests, it
now appears that some nuns also took advantage of their charges. Tuesday¹s
edition of newspaper De Telegraaf contains the story of Herman Harends, who
says he was abused by nuns at a Roman Catholic boarding school he attended in
 the 1950s.

Radio Netherlands Worldwide and newspaper NRC Handelsblad published their
 report
 http://www.rnw.nl/english/article/dutch-catholic-church-faces-child-sex-abuse
-scandal on sexual abuse within the Roman Catholic church two weeks ago.
Since then, more and people have come forward, saying they, too, were
 childhood victims.

Mr Harends and his two brothers attended a boarding school in the southern
 Dutch town of Tegelen.
I have not spoken out before because it is a hard claim to substantiate,² he
explains, ³I¹m not looking for atonement or apologies, most of the nuns have
 died.²

The abuse by the sisters started when I was 11. When I was in the bath they
played with my penis and tried to give me an erection ... They would also put
my hand under their robes and into their underwear.²

Mr Harends (now 63) does not believe the abuse was an isolated case. ³I had
dealings with two nuns who worked independently,² he tells the paper, ³I
can¹t imagine that I, one of the hundreds of students, was the only one they
used to vent their desires on.²

Nun Pleads No Contest In Sex Abuse Case
Elderly Nun Allegedly Sexually Abused Boys At Wisconsin School In The 1960s
 MILWAUKEE, Nov. 12, 2007

 http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2007/11/12/national/main3492054.shtml

(AP) A 79-year-old Roman Catholic nun pleaded no contest Monday to two counts
of indecent behavior with a child for alleged sexual encounters with two male
students at a church convent and school where she was principal during the
 1960s.

The nun, Norma Giannini, and her attorney left the courthouse without comment
after entering the pleas in Milwaukee County Circuit Court.

Giannini faces a maximum 10 years on each count when sentenced Feb. 1.

According to the criminal complaint, the two men told authorities they had
dozens of sexual encounters with Giannini, including intercourse, while
 attending St. Patrick's School.

One man said the nun told him in 1965, when he was 13, to open the buttons of
her habit, but he was shaking so badly he could not do so. He said she then
unbuttoned her clothing and had him touch her breasts, the complaint said.

The first incident was followed by 60 to 80 others, including two involving
 sexual intercourse, it said.

The other man said he had sexual contact with the nun more than 100 times,
beginning when he was in seventh grade. At least one incident involved sexual
 intercourse, the complaint said.

Giannini went on to work in Illinois from 1970 to 1994.

A Roman Catholic nun who sexually abused two teenage boys in Milwaukee four
decades ago admitted to a church panel that she also had molested a Chicago
boy and at least three other minors, according to a court document obtained by
 the Tribune.

Since most of the research on pedophilia is derived from studies of
incarcerated male sex offenders, there is an evident research bias excluding
females. Therefore, the male label 'paedophile' is never applied to female
perpetrators of child sexual abuse due to their presumed inability to ³fit²
the [gender-biased] diagnostic criteria. However, recent studies highlight
the existence of paedophilia in females as well. The few offenders ever
actually studied do in fact fulfil the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of
Mental Disorders (American Psychiatric Association) diagnostic criteria for
paedophilia and in many ways resemble male paedophiles, exhibiting the same
fantasies, preference for a gender and age range, grooming and use of
emotional blackmail, and cognitive distortions rationalizing their belief that
victims sexually 'teased' them and minimising any harmful effects of sexual
 abuse on the victim(s).

The myth that women as carers and nurturers are incapable of sexually abusing
 a child
must be dispelled in order to provide effective treatment, care, and support
 for both the
victim and the female sexual perpetrator. Hunter (1990) suggests the myth that

Ministers are working on proposals to transform the House of Lords
 http://www.guardian.co.uk/politics/lords into a democratically elected
second chamber based loosely on the US Senate.

The transport secretary, Lord Adonis, who would lose his seat in the Lords and
his post in government under the plans, confirmed today that they would be
 published very shortly.

Leaked blueprints reveal the current 704-seat chamber would be reduced to 300
seats, its members elected under a system of proportional representation. The
justice secretary, Jack Straw http://www.guardian.co.uk/politics/jackstraw ,
will publish his proposals in a draft bill before the election and these will
feature prominently in Labour http://www.guardian.co.uk/politics/labour 's
manifesto. Labour strategists hope that it will create a new dividing line
with the Tories, allowing them to portray the Conservatives as being
 anti-reform.

The second chamber would no longer be known as the House of Lords, a name
which has been in use since the 14th century. Members would face elections
every three terms and earn a salary of around £65,000. They would also be
subject to a US-style recall ballot which would disqualify them for
 incompetence.

The plans are designed to make parliament and legislative scrutiny more
accountable, but they predate the recent rows about privilege in the Lords
centring on the revelations of the Tory donor Lord Ashcroft's non-dom tax
 status.

Adonis told the BBC's Marr show: The time has now come to make it legitimate
in the only way that a legislative assembly can be legitimate in the modern
world, which is to be elected. Of course you couldn't introduce that reform
until after the election, but there'll be firm proposals. And they build on
the big changes we've already made to the House of Lords notably the removal
of the hereditary peers which has transformed it from being an essentially
one-party Tory assembly with very little connection with modern life to being
 a proper working assembly.

There are still 92 hereditary peers, a concession the government made to force
through the 1999 reforms. Under the new plans, which were leaked to the Sunday
Telegraph, they would all be removed.

It is understood the main sticking points still to be overcome are over what
to do about the 25 bishops in the Lords, whose removal would trigger a row
with the church, and how to manage the transition to the new system.

A spokesman for the Conservatives said that Labour had had 13 years to reform
the Lords, and to launch proposals now was playing politics with the electoral
system. We will work to build a consensus for a mainly elected second
chamber to replace the House of Lords, he said.

 eft-Amazing-story-Special-Branch-officer-infiltrated-anti-racist-groups.html
A Metropolitan Police officer has told how he routinely engaged in violence
while working undercover among British anti-racist groups.

The man, known only as Officer A, was a member of the Special Demonstration
Squad, a secret unit within the Met's Special Branch with a remit to prevent
violent public disorder on the streets of London.

In order to maintain his cover, Officer A became involved in violence against
members of the public and uniformed police officers.

He also had sexual relations with at least two of his female targets as a way
of getting hold of intelligence, he told The Observer.

Protest: The National Front march through Bolton town centre in 1980. Special
Demonstration Squad officers are believed to have infiltrated the party

'My role was to provide intelligence about protests and demonstrations,
particularly those that had the potential to become violent,' he said.

'In doing so, the campaigns I was associated with lost much of their
effectiveness, a factor that ultimately hastened their demise.

'By providing intelligence you rob these groups of the element of surprise.
Once the SDS get into an organisation, it is effectively finished.'

The Special Demonstration Squad was set up in the wake of violent anti-Vietnam
war demonstrations in London in 1968.

With their long hair and beards - which was very different to the usual
appearance of a policeman - they were referred to as the 'hairies', and fitted
into the role of Left wing intellectuals with ease.

Officer A, with his pony tail and angry persona, was so convincing that he
became branch secretary of a leading anti-racist organisation believed to be a
 front for Labour's Militant tendency.

He was given a new identity and provided with a flat and a 'cover job' during
his deployment between 1993 and 1997. He lived a double life six days a week,
spending just one day a week with his wife and family.

It was a period of heightened tension between orgnaisations such as the
Anti-Nazi League and the National Front. The SDS is believed to have
infiltrated all such Right and Left-wing groups.

'I had a really good time with my targets and enjoyed their company enormously
 - there was a genuine bond,' said Officer A. 'But I was never under any
illusion about what I was there to do. They were not truly my friends.

'The one thing all these groups have in common, both on the Left and the Right
is a total hatred of the police... You have no choice but to engage in acts of
 violence.'

Getting information from a man was easy, he said - you simply became his best
friend. But to get details from a woman was much harder.

'If someone started talking about getting good information from a female
target, we all knew there was only one way that could have happened. They had
been sleeping with them,' he said.

He himself slept with two targets - for information, and to maintain his
 undercover role.

'You can't be in that world full-time for five years and never have a
girlfriend,' he said. 'People would start to ask questions.'

Officer A's role ended amid fears that his presence within groups protesting
about black deaths in police custody and bungled investigations into racist
murders would be revealed during the Macpherson inquiry into the death of
teenager Stephen Lawrence, claims The Observer.

Officer A has chosen to tell his story because he believes the public have a
right to know - and subsequently make their own decisions - about these covert
activities, given their potential to help end legitimate protest movements,
 said the newspaper.

Members of the SDS do not have to gather evidence to prosecute their targets
 and are able to

NYTimes does a beautiful job spinning it. Saturday edition, front page.
(Sat least read they did not want to push it.)
The spin is this: “Oh, we are so confused, we don’t understand what this

The obvious is: Iran: “You would not dare.”
And we wouldn’t: hence spin.

And now they play the alternate media like lap dogs. Just put some nukes

[cia-drugs] Irish Catholic Abuse cover up, Pope Germany concealment, Smythe/McGonigle

2010-03-16 Thread smartnews

Irish Catholic leader won't quit for abuse coverup By SHAWN POGATCHNIK
(AP) – 3/15/10

DUBLIN — Ireland's senior Roman Catholic, Cardinal Sean Brady, said Monday
he would not resign despite admitting he helped the church collect
evidence against a child-molesting priest — and never told police about the
crimes.

Brady, as a priest and Vatican-trained canon lawyer in 1975, said he
interviewed two children about the abuse they suffered at the hands of the
Rev.
Brendan Smyth. He said both children were required to sign oaths promising
not to tell anyone outside the church of their allegations.

Smyth went on to molest and rape scores of other children in Ireland,
Britain and the United States before British authorities in neighboring
Northern Ireland demanded his arrest in 1994. The Irish government of the day
collapsed amid acrimony over why Smyth had not been extradited to Belfast

Smyth abused at least 90 children in Ireland, Britain and in U.S. parishes
in Rhode Island and North Dakota from 1948 to 1993.
His Irish religious order, the Norbertines, gave him sanctuary in the
Republic of Ireland in 1991 after one Belfast family told Northern Ireland
police he had molested four of the family's children.

After his delayed 1994 arrest and extradition north, Smyth pleaded guilty
to 17 counts of indecently assaulting five girls and two boys in Belfast
and spent three years in a Northern Ireland prison. In 1997 he pleaded guilty
to 74 counts of sexually abusing 20 boys and girls between 1958 and 1993
in the Republic of Ireland.

Under-fire pope urges youth to follow 'the call' By Simon Sturdee (AFP) -
3/16/10
Since the first revelations of abuse dating back to the 1970s and 1980s at
an elite Jesuit-run school in Berlin emerged in January, former victims
have alleged abuse at two-thirds of Germany's 27 dioceses.

One of those implicated is a boarding school attached to Regensburg
cathedral's choir. The pope's elder brother, Georg Ratzinger, who ran the
choir
for 30 years, has denied all knowledge.
On Friday the diocese of Munich and Freising said that the pope, when he
was archbishop there, had approved in 1980 giving a priest reportedly
suspected of abusing an 11-year-old boy Church housing for therapy.

Two years later, by which time the pope had been transferred to the
Vatican, the priest was given pastoral duties in a Bavarian town and convicted
of
sexual abuse of minors in 1986, according to the dioceseBishop Stephan
Ackerman of Trier, charged with shedding light on the scandal, said in an
interview that the Church was guilty of trying to hush up abuse.
According to our information, there has been concealment, he told the
Rhein Zeitung daily.

In cases where there has not been the will to shed light and where
abusers have been simply transferred, we must admit there has been
concealment,
the daily's online edition quoted him as saying.

Cardinal Sean Brady to take personal responsibility for his role in allowing
the serial child abuser to continue on his destructive path.

The youngest victim was just six-years-old, the eldest 13, when they were

The Party seeks power entirely for its own sake. We are not interested in
the good of others; we are interested solely in power. Not wealth or luxury
or long life or happiness: only power, pure power. What pure power means you
will understand presently. We are different from all the oligarchies of the
past, in that we know what we are doing. All the others, even those who
resembled ourselves, were cowards and hypocrites. The German Nazis and the
Russian Communists came very close to us in their methods, but they never
had the courage to recognize their own motives. They pretended, perhaps they
even believed, that they had seized power unwillingly and for a limited
time, and that just round the corner there lay a paradise where human beings
would be free and equal. We are not like that. We know that no one ever
seizes power with the intention of relinquishing it. Power is not a means;
it is an end. One does not establish a dictatorship in order to safeguard a
revolution; one makes the revolution in order to establish the dictatorship.
The object of persecution is persecution. The object of torture is torture.
The object of power is power.

NYTimes does a beautiful job spinning it. Saturday edition, front page.
(Sat least read they did not want to push it.)
The spin is this: “Oh, we are so confused, we don’t understand what this
means.”

The obvious is: Iran: “You would not dare.”
And we wouldn’t: hence spin.

And now they play the alternate media like lap dogs. Just put some nukes
in Garcia and let it out.
The coming peace is far more frightening than war.

There the play is the thing...

Here we are still learning to play Mr. Roberts...

Ya, but that's what we do, while simultaneously increasingly establishing
 us
serfs into condition of accepting such glocal homegrown terrorism
 police-state propaganda harmonization;
we comply to commensurate our part demonstrating as appeased satisfied
 with
swapping headlines like baseball cards, in simulation as if we are working
together to crack the cube; when we already have Had more than enough
evidence to administer the required righteous peaceful coup.

Seemingly easily immediately more attractively addicting than otherwise
simply uniting as Required to fix what we seem to otherwise lament about?

Bread circus / kabuki theater / the sociopathy of spectacle /
 mesmerizing
ourselves misdirected while organized corruption increasingly despoils
enslaves us via such absurd maneuvers mocking our will to pull freedom's
trigger in the face of slavery's assualt, or we would have united by now,
via all the blatant screaming evidence, and easily, in our vast numbers,
imprisoned or hung the traitorous terrorists in our midst with said over
 abundance of evidence.

Will we get what we deserve, or

Perhaps we just need to give it a bit more time until Interpol has
established itself in the world's eye able willing to do what we could not
do regarding our own homegrown terrorists that have been performing their
role abusing the world ... not to worry, it shouldn't be much too long
 now,
when the time mood is right, Interpol will establish itself policing
 hero
of our time world wide ... and having saved us from ourselves, albeit
reduced to a third world country fitting our current character; perhaps
 the
cogdis addiction could begin to subside, with the rising sun of a new
 world
order in our mind's eye? After so much disappointment, self-betrayal, and
murderous chaos; perhaps then with nothing left inside, no-longer any
self-respect lingering in the way, we can finally wearied rest as soft
 clay
to be reborn into somethingk that at least seems to make sense:

 war is peace
 freedom is slavery
 ignorance is strength

I told you once and I'll tell you again:

 WAR IS PEACE
 FREEDOM IS SLAVERY
 IGNORANCE IS STRENGTH

The Party seeks power entirely for its own sake. We are not interested in
the good of others; we are interested solely in power. Not wealth or
 luxury
or long life or happiness: only power, pure power. What pure power means
 you
will understand presently. We are different from all the oligarchies of
 the
past, in that we know what we are doing. All the others, even those who
resembled ourselves, were cowards and hypocrites. The German Nazis and the
Russian Communists came very close to us in their methods, but they never
had the courage to recognize their own motives. They pretended, perhaps
 they
even believed, that they had seized power unwillingly and for a limited
time, and that just round the corner there lay a paradise where human
 beings
would be free and equal. We are not like that. We know that no one ever
 seizes power with the intention of relinquishing it. Power is not a means;
it is an end. One does not establish a dictatorship in order to safeguard
 a
revolution; one makes the revolution in order to establish the
 dictatorship.
The object of persecution is persecution. The object of torture is
 torture.
The object of power is power.
