Chavez: China/Russia trade to make Venezuela medium power

VHeadline.com News Editor Patrick J. O'Donoghue writes:  With the signing of thirty trade agreements with China this week, Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez Frias has confirmed his intention to convert Venezuela into a medium-sized power.

The President made the statement on Venezuelan State VTV in an interview from China.

  • According to Chavez Frias, trade with two major world players, China and Russia will help Venezuela's aspirations to pull muscle on the world scene.

The majority of the investment agreements signed in Beijing are to do with the transfer of technology, which, the President says, will help Venezuela escape from dependence in the area and transform Venezuela from small fry to medium power.

Among the companies, the President and his entourage have met are: Huawei Technologies, Alcatel Shanghai Bell,  ZTE, China Railways Engineering Corporation (CREC) and Petroleum and Chemical Corporation (Sinopec).

Chinese business persons are showing interest in tourism in Venezuela.

The following make up the President's party: Foreign Minister, Nicolas Maduro, Planning & Development Minister, Jorge Giordani, Energy & Mines (MEM) Minister, Rafael Ramirez and Ambassador to China, Rocio Maneiro.
