FREEDOM IS NOT ENOUGH

The following excerpt comes from a letter, written by James Harry Reyos, which appeared in the Austin Chronicle on 24 June 2005:

‘I humbly appeal to you, Gov. Perry, to intervene and help bring my wrongful conviction to an end.
Don’t give me the deaf ear, governor!
Don’t ignore my cry of innocence, governor!
Don’t ignore my call for justice, governor!
Don’t allow my wrongful conviction to linger on and on and on, governor!
One thing is for certain, and has been proven to be true: I did not kill Father Patrick Ryan. I was innocent yesterday! I am innocent today! And, I will be innocent in perpetuity!

You may have never heard of James Harry Reyos, but I can tell you he is a gentle softspoken man from Texas who is a true inspiration to my soul.  He has been driven for a very long time by a spirit of unsatisfied justice, but he called me tonight to share some very hopeful news. Before I share his message, let me tell you just the basics about about James.

In 1983 James Reyos was jailed after being convicted of the murder of Father Patrick Ryan, a Catholic priest who had been found brutally murdered in a Texas motel room two years earlier.

James maintained his innocence throughout his years of imprisonment. Many believed him.  Even C/Os wrote letters of support to the Texas Parole Board but to no avail: James served the full thirty-eight years that rightfully belong to another man. What that man may have been doing all these years should weigh heavy on the conscience of all involved in James' incarceration

If you still believe our justice system works, this case should haunt you because it is representative of what's happened to too many Americans.  James knows that. The innocents he met in prison are a big reason he is still so focused on clearing his name.

James is technically free, but legally considered to be a guilty man who has served his time.  James cannot accept that and will never given up the effort to clear his name.  Since leaving prison he has worked tirelessly to garner support and focus on the case.  He now has a wonderful attorney whom some of you may recognise from the infamous * Tulia Drug Sting.

Attorney ** Jeff Blackburn has put his all into getting James'  evidence in front of the Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles.  James Reyos is now due to be heard in late November or December of this year. He and his lawyer hope that the Parole Board will recommend that Governor Perry grant James a Full Pardon on the grounds of INNOCENCE so that this injustice can be ended once and for all.

If you live near Austin Texas, we'll keep you informed as to when the hearing is to take place and perhaps you can join James in his moment of Victory.

Attorney Blackburn built an uncluttered, easy to read website for James to reveal the truth and aid in their quest for justice.  Please visit, and sign James' guestbook before you leave.  He needs your energy.   http://www.jamesharryreyos.g3z.com/

PS.  James has never seen his site.  He has no computer.  He doesn't know I'm going to ask this, but if anyone has a computer that's not being used, contact his attorney for an address to send it to.
