The database is updated by freshclam, but it is loaded by clamd (when

Mailing list etiquette suggests that you read at least a few earlier
posts in the archives before posting.  One of the biggest complaints
about ClamAV is the large amount of memory that it uses to do what
little it does.  If you had read, say, the last week's posts you would
already know that 256MB is not nearly enough to load any recent ClamAV
database.

Here's the output of 'top' on one of my mail servers:

As you can see, the RESident memory used on this machine by clamd is over
