You can send the SHUTDOWN command to terminate clamd, Other than that, once
the scanning engine is passed a scan request, it needs to complete so that
system resources are properly released. There also some clamd configuration
parameters to limit the amount of scanning (see

to connect to clamav to do scanning, there is socket time out on the client,
but we actually want to know if there is way to abort a scan so clam doesn't
churn system resources after a certain timeout. I didn't find
