I don't know how many care but Lyx 2.0 was released tomorrow (May 8th) (It was released from Europe). There are lots of changes since 1.6 was released over two years ago. Lyx is great for writing scientific papers since Lyx generates Latex files but it is also useful for most other writing. I use it for all my writing except things like here and for plain text where I use vi.
