On a LF38, the rudder basically hangs from the rudder nut-collar. The bearing
is a thrush bearing which sandwiches between nut-collar and the bolted-in base
plate.There is only one bearing.

This would be a hard thing for the crew to deal with though and indeed sad news.
I will note also that David had a situation of his own during a prior race
where a crew member became incapicated and the other crew, his son and another
young man, were on constant watch with the striken crew
Looks like David might be on the wrong side of his class. He's the leeward
boat on what looks to be a reaching leg into Bermuda.

the asbestos header wrap.
By the way, if you have the asbestos wrap header wrap on yours, it should be

Most if not all pipe dopes and Teflon tape sealers are not really there to
seal the threads of a NPT fitting from leaking. They are simply there to
lubricate the threads so a sufficiently tight connection can be made. The

I replaced the aluminum framed windows on my 1976 38 with Lewmar opening
Portlights. They were a little expensive but a very nice upgrade. I had to
enlarge the window openings a little, used a jigsaw with a blade made to cut
fiberglass and it was fairly easy.
