A couple of weeks ago I posted that the cockpit drains on my 33 mkii were frozen and the hoses had popped off. Upon investigation, I found that there was a low spot in the criss-crossed drains. I am not sure whether they were originally installed with a low spot or they just sagged over the

Changing the subject slightly, my cockpit drains are not crossed, they go straight down, and work fine. I don't get the theory of crossing drains. Seems to me that a crossed drain will start to approach horizontal as the boat heels and work less well. So what's the logic behind crossed cockpit

Hi Sam, If your cockpit sole is at an elevation where the leeward drain is below the waterline when heeled then crossed drain hoses prevent water coming into the low corner and getting the binoculars and empty beer cans wet. I have vertical drain hoses and no problems. Cheers,
