Nope — it’s FOUR wires: two drive wires, and two clutch wires. The drive wires are the high-load ones, and go to the pump motor; reversing the polarity on them runs the pump in the other direction. The clutch wires can be small (12-14AWG) and engage/disengage the drive when you put the pilot

Pete, The PO of the Enterprise put in an Octopus drive as part of a Robertson Autopilot system. The Octopus was alway quiet and ran perfectly (and I assume it still does - the Robertson "brain" started having problems). A few months ago, through lister Fred Street, I purchased a Raymarine EV2
