Right on Dennis. he purpose is two-fold, as they also prevent the deck flexing and a compromised seal (due to unwanted movement). With the upward arc of the deck structure, including cabin trunk, it is impossible to flex down. So pins are an elegant solution. Cheers, Russ

The pins in Randy's chainplates are quite loose. I could almost remove them by hand. I told him when he reassembled them to center the pins in the chainplate and make a detent on either side with a metal chisel to prevent movement. While I agree thier purpose is probably to hold the bedding
