Yup. Buddy of mine did that after his J30 got T-boned. Downside is if the
boat is USCG documented, it will probably show up on the abstract of title
and you then own a totaled boat. Might be harder to sell.

If they can fix her, we'll keep her.
Hold out for a new mast. Then let them total the boat, and buy a new one
for less than the agreed value.of the old one.

Adjuster yesterday. Autoowners has stated they will authorize repair up
to the agreed to value of the boat ($24,000). Torresens is starting the
estimating process. They
