I usually make it to Block Is about three times a year and stay at
Payne's Dock. Most of the time for racing when New Harbor is crowded
and moorings hard to find. Payne's has fuel, water, elec., showers
(25cents), bar with live music, and a snack bar. Boats are mostly tied
up stern-to and

If you’re going to do Mystic, which I also recommend, forget Brewers and stay
in the Mystic Seaport

If you’re going to do Mystic, which I also recommend, forget Brewers and stay
in the Mystic Seaport. It’s a short walk into town, your boat is on display in
the museum, and you have the whole place to yourself at night. Our first C
rendezvous was there and it was a blast.
All the best,
Edd
One final recommendation: Brewer's in Mystic. It is a fun sail inside Fisher's
Island, and then up the channel past Noank to Mystic. Do not be tempted to cut
the dog-leg at Noank entrance.
The Brewer yard has BBQs, pool, and good showers, and then an easy dinghy ride
up the river to the Mystic

And holding ground is not great with deepish anchoring waters. Get the

Tom,
I second Edd's comments. Go for a slip. Choice is limited - many of the slips
are too shallow.
When we lived in Connecticut, Block was the most fun part of our summer cruise.

When we lived in Connecticut, Block was the most fun part of our summer cruise.
Rather than deal with the uncertainty of finding a mooring, we would book a
"slip" at Champlin's. I use the term
Tom,
I understand that moorings can sometimes be hard to obtain, especially on a
weekend. As Neil pointed out, there is no reservation system.
Plus, depending on how many of your crew is coming on the cruise, they may
actually prefer being dockside at a marina, with easy access to showers,
Tom,
I've spent a few nights at Block Island for the last several years on my
cruises. The situation with the town moorings is first come/first
serve, no reserving. It reminds me of trying to find a parking spot in
NYC, at 7 - 8 am you cruise around the mooring field looking for someone
Hi Listers,
My crew is demanding that I give them a break from racing so we are
planning for our first cruise, heading up Long Island Sound to Newport and
Block Island, next month. I've arranged dock space at the navy base in
Newport, but I'm still working out the details for the stop at Block
