You have to keep in mind zinc is for salty waters, for fresh water you need to
use magnesium or at least cast aluminum.

Merry Christmas to all.

Dan, you can get the Zinc get any chandlery. You need to know the shaft
size. Wildcats would be three-quarter inch. The prop just needs to be
cleaned well. There is no reason to spend hundreds of dollars on A new one

Re: Stus-List CC 26 Prop Zinc

2014-12-24 Thread Josh Muckley via CnC-List
Lots of prop choices. Are you looking for a like for like replacement or
are you using this as an opportunity to upgrade? I recommend an upgrade to
a 3 blade feathering/folding prop.

The zinc can be found anywhere. West Marine, Defender, etc. You need to
know the shaft diameter. Boatzincs.com is one option that will give
options on aluminum, magnesium, and zinc alloy variants. They also
explain why you should use one over another. If you don't know the shaft
size then use calipers on the inside of the boat to measure the shaft near
the stuffing box.

Why not just remove the prop and buff it clean? As long as the zinc is not
eaten away from the bronze – the prop will be pinkish -- it should be fine.

2014-12-24 Thread Gary Nylander via CnC-List
If a diver is telling you to replace a prop which just has some build-up on it,
replace the diver. Like this letter says, take it off and buff it out. I use
emery cloth or sandpaper. Unless it is corroded to the point of falling apart,
it can be cleaned forever.
