We tried Goo Gone and contact cement solvent, and a few other things, the only
thing that worked was a product called Goof Off, bought at Canadian Tire.
Dampen a rag with it and hold it in place on the glue, it's takes a few minutes
to soften the original glue. Wear nitrile gloves and make very sure you have
good ventilation. And be patient.

Side grinder? Flame thrower?

Seriously, that stuff is tenacious. I used acetone and lots of elbow
grease and it still shows stains. If you're really serious, use solvents
then maybe hit it with some 800 or 1000 grit wet/dry sandpaper.

The original Velcro was very strong, but everything else I’ve tried has not
lasted long. My panels are now all screwed to the overhead. I was tired of
watching them fall off the ceiling when bashing into big waves. The SS screws
are all capped with covers to match the overhead. Looks neat and professional,

Lee, I mean canvas snaps and studs, like these:

https://www.amazon.com/Pieces-Stainless-Fastener-Marine-Socket/dp/B01FLUW1D2/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8=1479619961=8-2=canvas+snaps

The screens have Sunbrella borders with the snaps.  The studs are screwed into
the headliner around the forward hatch or, in the case of the companionway, the
wood trim and the edge of the sliding hatch.  They fit tight and keep out the
skeeters.

Nice thing about them is they fold up small and stow easily.  I could almost
put both the forward hatch screen and the companionway screen in a 1 gallon zip
bag.

Isn't FRP "blasphemy" in a salon or so I thought that was the consensus when I
did mine. I tried the Velcro route and didn't like the look. Too bulky at the
edges. I used 4200 to secure the panels. So semi-permanent. I re-bedded
everything prior. Had to brace the panels in place until the 4200 set. There
are a few pictures Persuasion37.com under "the boat". I put the bubble side
down and painted the head liner Interlux Perfection "blue glo" white. Really
brightens the salon.

My panels are velcro'd all around and screwed in each corner. The velcro
that the PO used was the self-adhesive kind and it hasn't lasted well. It
also left sticky bits in all the wrong places as it failed, so it's
difficult to replace. If it was my choice, I would use a good quality
solvent-based contact cement.

My panels are original and Velcro. The only thing I’ve found to reattach the
existing tape, or securely hold new, is epoxy. I’ve tried so many different
things I’ve lost track of all of them, but virtually everything else has failed
within a year.

It’s an aggressive solution, but I also don’t expect to remove the tape anytime

Hope that helps,
