Douglas County Christmas Bird Count about ten years ago, along Plum Creek
under
the Wolfensberger Road bridge near I-25 in Castle Rock. Haven't seen any
along there ever since, though we still make a point of looking for
When I pulled into my driveway (near Colorado Blvd and Orchard, Centennial)
last night, about 1130 PM, a long eared owl was calling from high on a tree
next door. I did not see the bird, but will be listening and looking.
As a reference...a pair of great horned owls has been in the
Cherry Creek State Park, Arapahoe
A lesser black-backed gull, third cycle or full adult, was lined up with
dozens of ringed bills moderately far out from the marina toward the dam
road this morning.
An eared grebe was also on the reservoir, by itself. Tens of westerns were
far out.

Birds found the new feeder today. I don't normally get many mountain
chickadees, but I've got two today, along with two red-breasted nuthatches, a
handful of black-capped chickadees, downy woodpecker, and the normal contingent
of house finches.

Richard Stevens made the long trek from Denver to see the Eastern Towhee
this morning. He arrived at around 10 after 6...and the Eastern Towhee put
in her 6:30 appearance right on time. She comes in sporadically during the
day at about 2 to 3 hour intervals. Her first and last visits of
Cobirders,
There was a 1st winter and and adult LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL at Baseline
today. There were also two 1st winter and three adult HERRING GULLS. One young
Herring Gull had a large crayfish clinging to its chest. The young Lesser
Black-backed helped remove it in flight.

The imm. Greater White-Fronted Goose found by David Waltman last week at
Dodd Reservoir was seen flying in with other geese to their nightly roost on
Boulder Reservoir at 4:40 pm yesterday 11/8. The general pattern of movement
of geese at dusk is SW from the Niwot/Dodd Reservoir area, across IBM

The CB Thrasher put in an appearance at the Red Rocks feeders at 9 9:30 am
today. The first view was 1 min but the second was for at least 5 min.
He eventually sat in the top of the apple (?) tree before diving into the
ravine behind the trading post.

windy, with clouds moving in. Highlights:
