Hello, Birders.
Hannah and Andrew and I saw a SHORT-EARED OWL along the north shore of Boulder
Reservoir, Boulder County, late yesterday afternoon, Wednesday, April 20th.
This species is unusual in Boulder County. The bird was flying around and
perching in the general vicinity of 40.084918
Early this morning (at 15 minutes or so after midnight) as I was getting into
bed, I heard a commotion coming thru the sounds of rain and my apartment
bedroom window. Normally noises in my neighborhood at this hour involve
college kid parties, one dog we can only hope never learns how to blog,
I birded Home Lake this morning. This is always a good place to bird when the
winds are gusty like today. Anyway, it was a great joy to see Warblers again!
Orange-crowned, Yellow-rumped, and a Wilson's (at my house), plus Hermit
Thrush, Cassins Finch, Pine Siskins, Greater Yellowlegs and
We have a small population of white wing doves (2 or 3 that we have
seen) in our neighborhood, near Lake McIntosh. Beautiful birds! We
have some pretty photos if anyone is interested. I posted them on
Boulder County Audubon Facebook page. Enjoy.

Hello, Birders.
I checked out Greenlee Preserve, Boulder County, during an early lunch break
this morning, Thursday, April 21st. An interesting bird was an early PALM
WARBLER, singing and calling quite a bit, but generally unforthcoming; I didn't
get a great look at the bird, but I assume it
To clarify the location of the Yellow-throated Vireo
I reported today. The Skunk Creek Greenway Trail and the
Boulder Creek Path meet on the University of Colorado
Research Park/East Campus. The spot is just west of where
Arapahoe Avenue crosses Boulder Creek.

I tried with success for the Yellow-throated Vireo reported this afternoon by
Alex Brown on CU's East Campus.
I found the bird somewhat south of where Alex first found it, but it was still
associating with a flock of about 20 or so Yellow-rumped Warblers that were
mainly Myrtles. This was the
I like your funny suggestion of scientific GHO open-eye study Dave!

Greetings All,
I wandered around various parts of w. Weld County today.
I started at Crow Valley, which was slowish, and had nothing notable.
The rarest bird of the day was the lingering BLACK-LEGGED KITTIWAKE and Windsor
Lake. It was swimming in the middle of the lake, until a Bald Eagle

I took a quick hike through Prospect Park this afternoon on my way to
Evergreen for the Bear Creek Watershed BBA meeting. In the park, I had 1
FOY Chipping Sparrow, 2 FOY Audubon's Warblers, copulating red-shafted
Northern Flickers, and 2 Cinnamon Teal males in Clear Creek. I did not see

Dear Birders,
As was noted by others, a fantastic day of birding.
Best bird of the day, other than the previously reported YELLOW-THROATED VIREO
(Confluence ponds, SW of Arapahoe and Foothills Parkway, 5 pm), was a calling

All,
While working in Yuma County today I found 2 Baird's Sparrows in sand-sage
habitat near Wray. Both birds sang spontaneously just once each; both also
gave their distinctive, high, contact calls and were reluctant to fly. This
seems to be a great time of year to search for this and other
Yesterday I found 4 godwits at Lake Holbrook, located north of La Junta, in
the lower Arkansas Valley. The lake level is fairly low so the shoreline
was distant and even with my Zeiss 40-60 zoom maxed out I could not be sure
if these were Marbled or the rare Hudsonian Godwits. I took photos in
