Hi all,
Mark Peterson, Steve Mlodinow, and I went out yesterday, hoping to break the
previous month of April Colorado Bird Day record (which was 152 species
submitted to ABA).
We visited Pueblo (owling), Teller (mountain birds), El Paso, Fremont, Otero,
and Bent Counties during our 24 hour
Mark P., Steve M., and I birded from Lamar back to Pueblo today.
Here are the highlights:
Broad-winged Hawk - 1 flying over the train station in Lamar, Prowers County
early the morning (I just noticed I forgot that there were 1 or 2 Broad-winged
Hawks on our Big Day along the Canon City
I still have 3 Juncos in my yard today, two Slate-colored and one Pink-sided.
I've never had them here past the first week of April before. Over a dozen
White-crowned Sparrows picking up Nyger seed that was blown all over the yard
by the wind and a lone Song Sparrow skulking around.
The bossy
Continued slow today..in addition to relatively few birds around, we also
had a pair of Sharp-shinned Hawks looking for brunch, which kept those birds
that were around in hiding. Finally caught the female mid-morning, and that
kept us and visitors entertained for awhile!
Sharp-shinned
I birded Phillips County today, only from 12:30 til 4:30.
Nothing too unusual, but some migrants are coming through.
*Haxtun Sewage Ponds*
Double-crested Cormorant 6 (not an easy bird there, in my experience)
Cinnamon Teal 3 (again, a common bird elsewhere, but it was a county bird
for me
I may search the general area in the AM, as it is a spectacular
Jefferson County rarity.

Hi CObirders,
My husband Dan and I decided to cruise around and see what water birding
offered us since land birding at Sondermann Park (Colorado Springs) was quite
slow in terms of migrants. The following highlights are below...
Big Johnson Reservoir
- Peregrine Falcon - 2

The Broomfield County Black-necked Stilt was still present (along with the
other stuff Julia mentions including a Lesser Yellowlegs) across from Stearn's
Lake at about 7:00 p.m. when I stopped on the way home from DIA and an out of
town trip.
