Hello, Birders.
Perfect storm: Nasty weather, I am told (haven't been around), the past few
days here in the Front Range region; winds right now (just before 4am, Monday,
May 16th) out of the southeast at 5 mph; and a loud cloud ceiling. The 3am hour
has been excellent over Lafayette, Boulder

Just a quick note to say that last night I 'relocated' the Ruby-
throated Hummingbird first reported by Neldner last week.
After speaking with Rick Peterson who confirmed their find, I took a
chance and went looking for the rarity (first of Huerfano County).

Hello, Birders.
I spent the past several days in northwestern Colorado, where it was warm and
sunny--in contrast to what was going on in the Front Range region, I am told.
Highlights for me included: the Rufous-collared Sparrow continuing in
Georgetown; an adult male White-winged Scoter in
Hi, all.

Sorry!

The photos I posted last evening of the nesting Marsh Wrens might give the
impression that I had waded out in the marsh and was right on top of the birds.
I can assure you that illusion is simply because I have a pretty good camera
with a pretty good 400 mm lens, and I had nice light. I

Not too much time to bird this morning, but it's a gorgeous day. The balloon
launch area was busy right up until 9:20, when it just shut down. On the way
out, found my first Jeffco Lark Bunting (bad mobile phone pic at

Kara Carragher, Brandon Percival, Dan Maynard and I birded what ended up being
all day in southeast Colorado. It was actually chilly in the morning hours in
Baca and Prowers counties before the sun somewhat broke out and warmed things a
little. Below are the highlights, hopefully
I saw and photographed a Black Phoebe at Dixon Reservior in Fort
Collins today at around 12:00 noon. It was on the west edge of the
lake, just as the trails emerge from the wood. I watched it move
along the western side of the lake toward the south.

Had a wonderful and very birdy morning at Bear Creek Lake Park (BCLP)
today - flycatchers, warblers, sparrows. I birded both sides of
Pelican Point, the area around Fitness Station #1, and then walked
around the south side of the lake from Pelican Point to the SE corner
of the lake.
I stopped by this afternoon to see if the Scissor-tailed Flycatcher
was still around - we did not see the bird Sat. on the Spring Count
when we drove around Marston Reservoir (probably because it was
raining steadily). Within 10 minutes of my arrival, I found the

Hello, Birders.
Just a quick note here. If you were out and about in Boulder County today, you
must surely have noticed the Chipping Sparrows, absolutely everywhere. I heard
them downtown, I heard them up and down Arapahoe Road, I heard them in
Lafayette, etc. Along with the swarms of

Just to summarize our 2011 banding experience to date: Almost 2 1/2 weeks with
mostly single digit days, waiting for the vegetation to green up and the birds
to arrive. Then rained out for 2 days; then 79 birds; then rained out another
day; then 70 birds. Our 2nd and 3rd highest days ever
We now have 3 different male Rose-breasted Grosbeaks coming to our feeders.
Ruby-throated Hummingbird was last seen this morning at around 7 am. I
submitted a record for this bird...but would like to update it to show the
date we last saw the Ruby-throat. Could someone tell me is this is
