[cobirds] Red Rocks

2011-12-06 Thread Greg Pasquariello
I had a few minutes this morning and stopped at the Red Rocks feeders. Lots of the usual, plus the Golden Crowned Sparrow made an appearance on top of the rock wall. There were a handful of Pine Siskins about, and a big adult Cooper's Hawk was perched in the lone dead tree on the rocks. I

[cobirds] No Trespassing at Tufted Duck Site

2011-12-06 Thread Rachel Hopper
COBirders, The foreman for the gravel pit lake just came by and asked everyone to leave. He said birders are NOT allowed off the road. Unfortunately, if the duck comes back to this lake, it would not be visible. There is no way around this so please do not climb up the hill to scan the water.

[cobirds] Tufted Duck Parking

2011-12-06 Thread Rachel Hopper
COBirders, The duck has not yet returned but there has been some turn over of waterfowl. And, if you park on WCR 9.75 and get some elevation (or if you are already tall) it IS possible to see the water from the road. So far it seems parking there is ok but I would suggest pulling off the road

[cobirds] Common Redpoll at Norma's Grove (Weld) on 12/6/2011, etc.

2011-12-06 Thread Dave Leatherman
I stopped by Norma's Grove (e of the intersection of Weld CR57 and CR100) on my way further east (hoping to find Rachel's gyr and maybe other interesting things). The grove itself had a flyover Golden Eagle and a flicker, but there is a nice patch of wild sunflowers about 100 yards east of the

[cobirds] Rock Canyon, Pueblo County 12/06

2011-12-06 Thread Brandon K. Percival
I walked around a little on the Rock Canyon side of the river, below Pueblo Reservoir dam this afternoon.  I saw the four RUSTY BLACKBIRDS up in the tall cottonwood trees, west of Valco Ponds parking lot, where the river bends from north to west.  Margie Joy saw four of them along the river in

2011-12-06 Thread William H Kaempfer
