Saturday morning we looked out underneath the feeder and saw a stunning male
Lazuli Bunting. By the end of the day, we'd picked out three different ones (by

Then this morning, in about the same place, Urling spotted a new yard bird, a

While walking along the paved Poudre Trail that goes north from Prospect
Road in Fort Collins at 11:30AM, I spotted a Nashville Warbler. The warbler
was at the extreme north end of the riparian area that is half way between

Here is a belated summary of last week's banding activity at Ridgway State
Park.
It was an incredibly slow week, and I cut back on effort because it was
almost impossible to train when catching a maximum of one or two birds per
day. I ran the station Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday and caught a

Roger Linfield's mountain report of the other day got me interested in
following up with a trip of my own to Gilpin and Clear Creek Counties on
Saturday. I have a couple of set routes that I follow when I go up to Gilpin
County, this time I started at Los Lagos at the Boulder County line on CO
I'm driving to Kansas City this Wednesday, and I was wondering if anyone
had ideas about an alternative to I-70 or Highway 24 north of there that
has good birding stops. I was thinking of going through Lamar and then
heading east. I've been to Cheyenne Bottoms, but I don't really know if

I had a late start birding yesterday, but ended up with a really outstanding
day. Since an early stop at the CU East Campus was totally unproductive (as
was a lunchtime follow-up today), I didn't really do any productive birding
until 11:11 a.m. when I reached the Firestone Gravel Ponds. At

Hey folks,
After work I encountered a glowing orange male Bl ackburnian Warbler along the
Animas River Trail behind the Durango Fish Hatchery. The first I have seen in
Colorado. My wife was able to run over and take some photos which she is
posting on Facebook at the Birding Colorado
My son and I were able to get a few pictures of a Western Tanager along the
highline canal in Littleton. We also saw some house wrens, wood ducks and
a baby fox. Lots of fun right out our back door.

Gosh I was surprised to spot another Broad-winged Hawk this morning as it
soared above Canon City. This one was a light morph, the second of those I
have seen here this year. I have uploaded photos of it onto my Birds and
Nature blog http://birdsandnature.blogspot.com/ but they are not nearly

I was so busy with the dark morph Broad-winged Hawk yesterday I didn't get
to posting that I had 2 adult Harris's Sparrows in an agricultural field on

generally during winter months, so this is my first breeding plumaged birds
Claire Montour and I went to Belmar at noon today and happened upon the
gray flycatcher, as described on previous posts, at the north end of the
largest pond, very near the parking lot. The downward tail movement was very
distinct and it matched other characteristics. Sure appreciate this
Ira Sanders let me know that this goose has been there. thanks, last to
