Multiple people observed and photographed the Red Knot first reported on
July 27th at John Martin Reservoir (Bent County) again on July 28th. It
was in the same location as reported on July 27th, on the mudflats on
the west end of the Reservoir, accessed via the north side of the
With Mallards at Andrick Ponds (near Jackson St Pk)- large pond on east side of
Morgan County Rd 2- flew off but likely still in area

To celebrate Paul's 56th birthday we headed over to the San Luis Valley to
do a little birding. First stop was Blanca Wetlands...it was a wonderfully
cool and cloudy morning. During our morning there we saw:
Golden Eagle
Swainson's Hawk
Red-tailed Hawk
American Kestral
6 Snowy Plovers all in one

Photographs of the presumed Mottled Duck at the pond along Morgan County Road

Compared with the Mexican Ducks I've seen, this bird is as dark as the darkest,
but
I have been down in Lamar for a week, mostly collecting insects for CSU,
somewhat hunting birds. Lamar is in the middle of a drought and has been for
the past several years. All times of year are good for birds pretty much
everywhere in CO, but some times and places are better than others.
